Is G-EOMA Still Flying For Monarch?

Fri Sep 30, 2011 12:34 am

I have just seen a pic of G-EOMA in half Garuda, half Monarch colours. What's the deal with that?

Hadj (Hajj?) lease for the next couple of months. Something to do ferrying muslims to mecca I believe.

Oh right I see. Monarch will struggle on long haul with only 1 current A332.

I doubt it, otherwise they wouldn't have let it go on lease.
Make sure they know we're playing the game, but we don't need to play the game because we've already won the game.

Hmm yeah but still, if it comes to it normally they send A300's to SFB with refueling in Canada somewhere like they did before when there A332's went tech.

Monarchs A330's dont seem to do much long haul these days anyway
We'd like to welcome in particular our Executive Club members and those joining us from our Oneworld alliance partners.

One of the A330s has been running around Europe and mid hauls all summer on behalf of tour operators. That is the point of a charter airline, the aircraft moves around to clients who are willing to pay for it. They don't sit round idle 'just in case.'

There has been a bit of a demise in Long Haul op's within the UK charter airlines.

x3 of TCX's A332's are leaving the fleet this winter, and they too have been using the A330 on short-haul op's like Monarch have. The onl airline still running a heavy long haul operation is now TOM.

Does anybody else know if any of the UK charter airlines will be sending aircraft out for the Hadjj? Is AEU participating, I'm guessing TCX will (they always send out 1 or 2 A330's, sometimes the A330-300 from Thomas Cook Scandinavia) and TOM have deployed B767's out in the past.

Was watching this AC come out of the hangar and into the engine test bay, then back to the hangar yesterday. Got some shots but they're rubbish as I was on the other side of the airport at the time.

Bit of a stupid question! As mentioned above they don't really do long haul as much! G-SMAN is on its way back from SFB this evening into MAN, then its out on a ZB run in the morning!
No doubt it will be doin the GOI runs with the A300's soon.

Its 2 x A332 and 1 x 763.

G-MDBD, G-OMYT = A332 . G-TCCB = 763

The remaining A332's are leaving the fleet to go to Air Transat, except G-MLJL which is being leasing to Thomas Cook Scandinavian for our winter season.

Shame, especially G-OMYT. Came back from SFB on her.

I see. By the way G-MLJL was the aircraft I flew to SFB on.

Anyway cheers for all the info!

Not this year. The northern hemisphere holiday season is - despite the current weather in north west Europe and the record high temperatures - almost over. However with the Hadj moving forward through the season it appears to me that there is a looming problem.

Next year the start of the Hadj will coincide with the end of the peak northern hemisphere holiday season. This suggests to me that airlines like Monarch will not be able to meet their holiday period commitments and lease out numbers of aircraft for the pilgrimage.

Of course we have been in this situation (around 20 years ago) before. But then the number of pilgrims travelling long haul distances was much smaller. And I would not think that there are sufficient relatively inactive aircraft in the southern hemisphere to replace all of those from the northern hemisphere that are being and have recently been used to carry pilgrims. Perhaps next year the desert will suddenly empty in late August!

I was under the impression it was the ex-MYT A330's that were staying.

G-TCXA, G-OJMC, G-OJMB leaving.
