Condor Starting FRA-BWI-FRA Flights

Mon Oct 03, 2011 5:45 pm

Twice a week, FRA-BWI, on Monday and Thursday starting in July.

BWI gets a new n/s across the pond.

Congrats to both DE and BWI.

Unless these are holiday configured planes (Ever see the size of Middle-Atlantic German-Americans?   )

And this should draw from the Harrisburg statistical area as well.

I wonder if DE offers any connecting possibilities?

Definitely great news. BWI was in great need of more service to Europe.

Anyone care to place bets on how long the service lasts? While I'm happy to see BWI's international terminal gain some additional (commercial) use, I'm pessimistic that it'll last. The BWI mouthpieces are touting Baltimore as a tourist destination (unlikely, and I live here, but seriously, for Germans?!) and it's connections to the rest of the country via WN, Amtrak and MARC service. Am I the only one that sees this as a real stretch? If anything, I'd think BWI would fare somewhat better with leisure travel to warm destinations, something WN/FL is already addressing.

I'm not going to comment on how long this flight will last...but it is Frankfurt though. It's not Kangerlussuaq, Keflavik, Banjul, Monrovia, Accra, Shannon, and any other oddball destination BWI has had over the years. I guess that counts for something anyway. (And even so, Keflavik lasted for a decade and a half, and Shannon-Dublin lasted for several years.)

BWI is perhaps hoping WN/FL will finally get a real codeshare agreement going this time. Something like that would probably solidify this flight long term.
