Beautiful! I have always loved Hawaiian's colorscheme. HAL ... how do you like flying the A330? I'm partial to the 767 myself (only as a passenger) but would love to hear your insight on which you prefer, differing quirks, etc. These things fascinate me!

Haven't been on one of our 330's yet. I flew the 320 while on furlough a few years back, but will be doing a transition/upgrade to Captain on the 330 early next year. I'll let you all know how it goes once I'm done with training.

What's this one named?

(FlightAware is showing HAL8005 en route from LAX as I type this, ETA 2:52 AM HST. I'm guessing that's the flight for this plane.)

In keeping with the Constellation theme, our newest aircraft is named Hokupa'a, the Hawaiian name for the Constellation Polaris.

I had a bit of an adventure a few months back going to GUM - missed flights, late connects... DCA-IAH-GUM-NRT became DCA-IAH-LAX-HNL-MAJ-GUM.. anyway, I ended up getting transferred from Delta to Hawaiian on the LAX-HNL leg... made it over to T6 with a few minutes to spare and found myself in row 41 on N383HA. Very nice plane. I appreciated the USB plug in the seat, AVOD was nice too.

Yes, quite the beauty she is even moreso with the HA livery. The 332 is my favorite WB and I hope the 359 doesn't kill her.

I can't believe how fast it's being put into service. It landed at 3:04 am, parked at the hardstands for about an hour and then was tugged into gate 26 waiting for it's lucky passengers apparently.

This is the newest delivery. It may not be as outrageously exciting as the EIS of the first of a new type, but it's still an achievement and a milestone worth celebrating.

I also think the A330 looks fantastic in these colours. I hope I can fly on it someday.

I doubt it. HA have spent a lot updating their 767s and they are not all that old. I'll bet they are buying the 332s for their range and for new expansion, save maybe to have a 767 or two to spare for a lot of the charter work that they do.

I will be taking my first HA A330 next month to LAS. HA has always been my preferred airline for interisland and Mainland trips. I may be one of the very few life long Hawaii residents who actually never flew AQ. The "new toy" I really want from HA is an Android app with check-in and mobile boarding pass features.

No, I don't think so. There may be a few going off of lease in the next few years, but I've heard they may be looking for additional 767's too. I guess it's anyone's guess as to how many 767's HA will have in a decade.

Is Gate 26 the only A332-capable gate that Hawaiian can use? Coincidence... I've left from 27 before. Interestingly, I've only ever arrived and departed on the 767 from the interisland concourse.

I haven't heard about when will HA assign the A330-200 to their international routes--it seems HA is primarily flying the A332 between HNL and US West Coast currently.

I believe most gates on the Ewa side are HA A332 ready, including gates 24 and 25. They do tend to use 26 and 27 the most though.

I'm not really sure on what exact gates can handle the HA A330, but I have seen it park in Gates 19, 24, 26, 27. A330's from jetstar, delta, korean, asiana park in pretty much every other gate so I assume all gates in the main terminal can support an A330 @ HNL.

Gates 6-13, 17, 19, and 24-34 are all sized to handle 747s. I have seen the A330 at almost all of these gates. Gate 26 is one of the preferred gates HA likes to use because of the shorter walk to the Interisland terminal. It is also the 3rd closest gate to Customs

N384HA is named "Hōkūpa‘a" (Polaris or North Star).

It left TLS as HAL9975 to LAX, and today as itʻs 1st rev flt from LAX to HNL as HAL8005.

I really want Hawaiian Airlines to be part of a itinarary and possible future trip, but the only Hawaiian airline they show on this search engine is one that is called Hawaii Island Air wich only uses Dash 8. Why does'nt Hawaiian Airlines show ?

I'm not sure why it doesn't come up, but your best best would probably be to connect into either ICN, BKK or NRT on your airline of choice, then hop on HA from there. ICN would probably be a fun one, NRT is the shortest distance wise, with the available connections.

For some reason, the site is listing Hawaiian as Aloha Island Air. The one itinerary I found shows the OGG-SEA flight as HA30, which is clearly a Hawaiian flight and not a codeshare, but shows the airline as Aloha Island Air in parenthesis. It also shows the Hawaiian logo as one of the airlines in the bar above the itinerary. Hawaiian's codeshare flight numbers with Island Air are 4 digit flight numbers in the 3000 range (3XXX).

Indeed, NRT would be interesting for an HA connection! If Mortyman chooses HA then ICN or HND would be the way to go, although I guess its possible to have to go through NRT and then transfer to HND depending on the airline and routing. An A332 via HND or a 763 via ICN.

Just a friendly jest rdh3e, no meaningful attack on your comment intended.

I've yet to fly on HA's 332, but if it's anything like the other 330's I've been on, I am sure it will be a rather pleasurable experience regardless of my flying situations! I look forward to getting a ride on one sooner than later.

It is great to see another HA bird......

Is it bad that I know when HA-35 takes off and if I am able to I watch it make the long right hand turn to go back to the islands?

I do have a questions about expansion. Even though I live in US backyard, I only fly HA back to the Islands. I also have found out that unless I book about 5 months our I have little chance to get on HA-35. Is there any thought of expanding to a second flight from PHX? Also could that be a PHX to OGG or KOA (One could only wish  )

Unfortunately, you've got US as the main carrier to Hawaii out of Phoenix. This winter, you've got 4x daily on some days to HNL, 2x to OGG, 1x to LIH, and 1x to KOA. I don't know if HA could add flights to PHX, without losing money. However, I don't know the loads to HNL they have. Maybe if enough people flew PHX-HNL-OGG, they'd start a flight.

Also...I don't know if they have enough 767s for a PHX-OGG flight. Maybe they could pull a 767 off another OGG route?

Keep in mind HA has already announced the cancellation of PDX-OGG early next year, with that a/c being shifted to SJC-OGG and OAK-OGG... I'm afraid that doesn't help the chances of your suggestion happening.

That is the funny thing in PHX. I know a lot of people that go to Hawaii exclusively on HA and that is their first choice with US coming in a distant second. I have only antidoteal information, but all 12 of my flights (segments) in the past five years on HA-35 and HA-34 has been full. I agree that US has a greater presence, but I would pay the extra (and do) to fly a 767-300 with a 2-3-2 than US's 757's 3-3. Also the times for return on the US flights are hard as they don't normally go wheel up until 10:30 or 10:50PM HST with arrivals in PHX at 6:00 to 7:45AM

I think with the expanding Asian routes and new locations the metal is going to be used in a different place.

The returning HA36 flight, HNL-PHX gets in around midnight, which is very inconvenient for connections anywhere out of PHX..regardless of carrier. So unless one is going to spend extra for a hotel, then make a connection in the morning...I personally don't see that anyone would use HA for PHX-HNL unless they originated/terminated in PHX, unless they despise US.

That being said, I can see why..the Valley has 4.2+ million people...so one 763-full of people daily isn't *that* much..And US' service, for the winter, (on some days) maxes out at 1408 available seats to all of Hawaii. I can see why HA's flight is full though. When I flew LAS-HNL-LAS, I really enjoyed their A332, and the service that went with it.

Maybe when enough A332s come online, maybe PHX will be getting it. Depending on the LF....they should get it before SFO, in my opinion...since the Bay Area already has numerous UA flights out of SFO, and HA has OAK and SJC service both to HNL and OGG..
Will that ex-HP 752 get delayed...again?

The returning HA36 flight, HNL-PHX gets in around midnight, which is very inconvenient for connections anywhere out of PHX..regardless of carrier. So unless one is going to spend extra for a hotel, then make a connection in the morning...I personally don't see that anyone would use HA for PHX-HNL unless they originated/terminated in PHX, unless they despise US.

That is true about the time aspect, but I also find the US time to be poor in that they do not leave until 10:30-11:00 HST and you have to out of your room by 12:00. This puts you not having a place to freshen up or having to pay for the extra night. You also get in when the morning rush hour hits and then you have to contend with that fiasco. I am also a person that cannot sleep on a plane no matter how tired I am, so I prefer the earlier flight. I do understand the connection problem, but I would surmise that most of the traffic is ending at PHX.

Since I am a resident I love HA-36 and it take me a scant 35 minutes from the airport to my Chandler home after the trip. During traffic, even in the HOV lane it would be closer to an hour.

I also understand that of HA thought it to be feasible to have a second flight that they would consider it in the future. To that my crystal ball is all clouded up.
