This was a baffling decision by HU
from the outset. Without connections, they would have been reliant on O&D traffic between CCU
. No matter how nice the bus ride to the Hong Kong perimeter, it is not the same. The VFR & FIT
travel base for CCU
is in Europe & North America. However HU
's flights to YYZ
go to PEK
. It is the decision to connect CCU
& not to PEK
that doomed the route.
Also there are some curiosities in the article;
"prompting new entrant Qatar Airways to consider introducing larger aircraft and increasing its flight frequency."
This seems to be a rumour only as there is no source cited for this information. If you check the QR
website it still states that the equipment is an A320, even from April of 2012.
"Cathay Pacific is set to resume services in the city after 41 years."
Did anyone tell CX
? There is nothing to verify this information. CX
does not even have an office in Kolkata as per their website
