Last UA 747 200 Flight And Routes

Mon Oct 10, 2011 12:46 pm

I remember during the mind 90's, UA 747 200 was a rare sight at LAX. At that time UA did operate a lot of 747 @ LAX, but they was mostly 747 400s on trans Pacific routes or 100s for the Hawiian routes. Around 1997, UA start using 742 on one of their 2 LAX-NRT ( yes UA had 2 747 flights from LAX to NRT back in the 90's). In the late 90's, when UA start retiring their 741, they started to put 742 on the LAX-HNL route. In 2000, UA operated amost all it's LAX-HNL flights with 742s. They had one that left in the morning and in the evening. I saw the evening one take off, and the high pitch roar of four JT-9 at take off, sounds a lot better than the DL L1011s and HA DC-10s operating the same route on take off ( the DL L1011 sound better at start up). After 2000, I stop seeing UA 742, so I would like to know, what route was the last UA 742 flight?

I don't know but I know for sure that the final flight arrived in ORD, LAX or SFO. SFO would not surprise me at all because United has always based most of its 747s there.
