Bedek Decides In Favour Of 777BDSF

Tue Oct 11, 2011 9:28 am

Before any serious word from Boeing itself Bedek from Tel Aviv wants to open a new line for freighter conversion as they logically expect older pax-777s to enter the market once the 787 and 350 are flying. They have chosen the 777 over the A330 as conversion candidate, not too surprising, as they are a Boeing-only company so far. I think this will be good business. Strangely they talk about "777", not expressis verbis about the 777-200.
A777BDSF would be excellent to replace the last DC-10s as well as the MD11Fs, the oldest of which are slowly entering the critical age, as well as serving as an upgrade to 767F operators and complement to 777 factory -F operators. Not every 777F owner needs the range of this bird, a -BDSF might do it some. Bedek doesnt give a date, but it sounds realistic to expect the first 777BDSF ready by 2013. This is the way surely many SQ and EK 777s will go. Fedex is waiting, Im sure.

Are they planning to replace the floorbeams? Any idea on the cost of the conversion? If they offer a low-density conversion without replacing the floorbeams it would probably be attractive to the package carriers, but not to general freight. Might they certify both?

It's not an official launch. Maybe it's too soon for 777P2F conversion program. IMO
