I can't see enough detail in the photos, but it seems like it's a modified livery. I hope it's not another "EuroWhite" job. No gold stripe down the side. I couldn't see what was on the tail...

It's not fully painted. 787s rollout white, but not painted in the airline schemes except for the rudder.

Still no info on economy seat pitch? Aeromexico had a seat map with a similar configuration, 42J, 183Y and their J had 72 inches of pitch and 34-35 inches in Y at 9-abreast.
UA will have only 36J with probably 60 inch pitch, so what are they doing with the extra space? E+ will probably be 35" pitch with E 31-32" pitch. This is the only info that seems to suggest it could be 8-abreast as apposed to 9.

CO/UA were to take six 787s in 2012, apparently they now expect five.

9-abreast has been confirmed by CO. Sadly.
I expect pitch to be in line with the rest of the fleet, which is predominantly a tight 31".

And also not see the first one until after July 1st. Does it really take 8 months to paint and install an interior, Boeing?

I was asking myself the same question.

I'd say probably both. 25 of each. It says in the article whose link is posted above that United and Continental each ordered 25 units separately prior to the merger. Although there is one holding company, the two airlines still operate as two independent carriers. Next year United and Continental's operations will be integrated into one single company, one airline. By then only the number 22 will be used as a customer number.

If schedule holds it will be one airline as of 11/11/11, well before first delivery. I feel like UA would want to be consistent and not have a single -824 and a whole bunch of -822s...but who knows.

It sounds like the 787s coming off the line still don't reflect all of the changes to the design made during testing phase so they still need quite a bit of "change incorporation and re-work".

Does anyone know when the first 787 will come off the line actually complete, or as complete as planned?

According to this website http://nyc787.blogspot.com/ there are about 35 other "completed" 787s undergoing "change incorporation and re-work" which doesn't include the 6 test aircraft and the 2 aircraft that are in final preps for delivery to ANA.

What are they going to do with all the extra space then compared to the Aeromexico set map? Seems if they have less pitch and seats in J and less pitch in Y they will have quite a bit of extra room...

UA was the first operator of 767s, then they was the first operator of 777, and now thank to the CO merger, they are the first operator of 787 in North America, there must be something with this UA and big Boeing twins thing.

Congrats UA,    and stop losing my bags!

Not if ALL of Aeromexico's economy will be 34-35". Only 7 rows of United will be this and a smaller J, 42 vs 36.

I would guess -824s since the merged carrier will retain the Continental Part 121 certificate for commercial flights; the United Part 145 certificate will be kept for repair station operations.

I always thought the codes was just an internal thing Boeing comes up with. Does it really matter if bought who, what certificate is used, when they are ordered, when they will be deliverred etc? Couldn't Boeing, if it really wanted to, just make up a whole new code for UA/CO if it really wanted to?

People here always make it sound like the Boeing codes are something set by the FAA and that there are certain rules and guidelines that MUST be followed...

I believe the first 727 flight was with Eastern Airlines on Feb 1, 1964. If I remember correctly, United did get the first delivery aircraft, but Eastern actually flew the first passenger revenue flight out of Miami heading up the east coast.

One thing I remember from news at the time...the 727 was the first jet to enter service less than one year after it's first flight. I think the first flight was Feb 9, 1963, with the first revenue flight as noted above. I'm pretty sure of the first revenue date, but I may be off by a day or two regarding the first flight in 1963.

Never. Change incorporation happens throughout the life of a fleet (A320's and 737's are still rife with them). The change incorporation process always lags production, so what pops off the end of the assembly line is never the latest-and-greatest design. The 787 is not at all unique in this regard.

Yes.

They're not. They're just numbers. Boeing could call the next 787 off the line a "787-8Fizzing Whizzbat 6000" and that's what would go on the paper.

That makes sense but when will the 787 line at least to get a point when the change incorporation is more similar to a regular production aircraft? I assume that can be typically measured in a few weeks or maybe even days rather than the 9 months that the first UA 787 is expecting...

Given the fact that (barring the merger) this would have been a CO bird and the fact that UA can't seem to stick with a livery/wouldn't have received their 787s for some years, we may never have had a chance to see this anyway. Definitely a good-looking livery on the 787, shame it wasn't to be!

IAH-AKL will be the first International route for UA's 787s, their first routes will most likely be domestic flights for a couple months. When CO took delivery of their first two 777s in 1998 they flew EWR-MCO 2x and EWR-IAH-LAX 1x daily prior to those aircraft going overseas. As for Lagos that route will launch this fall with a 777, which were supposed to launch Cairo, it's possible Lagos will stick with the 777.

We've all seen the pics of Paine Field with 787 parked all over the place. All of those other airplanes are going to go through Change in Corp. before this one. They're being worked in the same order they were built. THAT's why it's going to take so long. This one's going to sit for awhile before anyone touches it.
