Delivery Of Garuda Indonesia's First 77W?

Sat Oct 22, 2011 1:37 am

Hi!

Garuda Indonesia was supposed to take delivery of their first 777-300/ER in February 2011 but postponed delivery about six months before delivery. It was then mentioned that they would take delivery "about a year later"

So is that still the plan ? Garuda will still take delivery of their first 777 in February or March 2012 ?

Thanks for any insight !

Last thing I heard about this was that the first aircraft would be delivered in Q3 2012, but thruth be told, this is all shrouded in a lot of mystery. On the level of fleet and route planning, contingencies are currently being made for all kinds of new routes, but it is unclear which ones of those plans will materialize when.

Not to sound to naive, but does anyone know how many are on order? Also, I'll just say that those will be some great looking 77Ws...

Edit: Whoa, looks like we have a ten-year club in this thread, lol...

Had a quick look at the Wiki site for GA; 10 are on on order, for delivery from February. Will be one nice looking aircraft!

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Garuda_Indonesia

IIRC, the initial order was for six, but when the 787 order was cancelled, the 77W order was increased to 10.

Yes, the "old guys" of A.net - who can remember GA when it was firmly on the "avoid" list; great to see an airline turn itself around as GA has done in recent years!

Doubt I'll get to fly GA anytime soon unless I do a short hop down to Indonesia. Very likely to do GA for that but they definitely won't put this new birds on this route

If or when GA gets its 77W's, think there is any chance of them coming back to LAX? Obviously they could eliminate a stop or two with the range of the 77W vs the DC-10's, M11's or 747's previously used.
Next Flights: PDX-HNL-OGG-LIH-PDX On AS, WP & HA

Hi Mark! Give me about six months or so as I have some other trips planned. Just had my kidney transplant about ten days ago

I think it's a possibility that GA may fly that route for crew familirazation purposes. I could see them fly CGK-SIN, CGK-DPS and CGK-HKG. Since they are getting 10 77W, they will need train a lot of pilots.

We'll see.

I think HB-IWC is much more reliable than Wikipedia so I'll go with Q3 2012.

A great new LANDOR identity! It will look even better on a 777-300.

Yes, I agree with you. Landor is the best airline branding company in my opinion. Which is their latest airline (re-)branding and do they have any other airline (re-)brands in the works?

Hi guys,

You might find this article interesting: http://www.ausbt.com.au/garuda-s-big...sia-europe-skyteam-frequent-flyers

The article refers to an interview of the GA G.M. for Australia, who discusses that the A332s used for flights to CGK are equipped with flat beds in J with 75 inch seat pitch, and that the product to DPS has 165 degree lie-flat beds in J. More interesting, however, is that the date of accession as a SkyTeam member is mid-2012, and that 2012 is also the year when GA will receive its first 77Ws (out of a total of 10 on order) that will include F (suites similar to 9W's), J and Y, and will let GA launch nonstops to Europe. GA intends to serve LON, FRA, CDG, FCO and AMS. It is not clear if all these cities will receive 77W nonstop service or not.
Next flights: MEX-LAX AM 738, LAX-PVG DL 77L, SHA-PEK CA 789, PEK-PVG CA A332, PVG-ORD MU 77W, ORD-MEX AM 738

Yet they have royally screwed it up with GA by replacing the instantly recognisable Garuda bird with meaningless wavy streaks on the tail.    Sorry, but I don't drink the "Anything Landor does is automatically an improvement" kool-aid.

The Garuda bird is kept on the fuselage whereas the new tail logo also reflects the bird's feather's up close. You will not see the bird, but there definately is a resemblence when looking at the tail logo. You just have to see it, that's all. At first I also wasn't impressed by the new GA livery but seeing it a few times and thinking about the design, I think it is a good design. The colors are still very unique which makes the new livery recognizable from a distance as well. And to make it clear, I never said that everything Landor does is an improvement. To me they are just the best design bureaus on the market but even the best bureaus can have bad designs.

True, and for me, the GA livery definitely belongs in the "oh my god, what where they thinking when they threw that together?" category. I realise that whether a livery is good or bad is very subjective, and it is clear from this thread that there must be at least half a dozen people in the world who like it, however, I certainly don't.

Not sure Landor screwed it up, I think images of GA aircraft wreckage did that a few years ago. Whilst I concede I think an actual logo on the tail would have been nice instead of streaks of colour, I like the consistency across the braninding especially crew uniforms.
