The number of incidents with this airline and its fleet of brand new B739ERs is too long to keep track, yet some in this forum seem to stick to their position on what a great airline this is:

Doesn't sound like there was any damage to the aircraft; it looks to be a very minor incident-certainly a contributing factor was heavy rain. But Indonesia does seem to have more than its fair share of such incidents, from what I have seen.

Coincidently my Lion Air photo that was accepted in the database this weekend was this exact aircraft (PK-LHO) involved in the incident:

A commenter on the avherald article alleges that witnesses saw the plane land halfway down the runway.

If true, definitely the same bad old Lion that causes every 734 and MD-90 out there to quake in its boots...

The aircraft came to rest just slightly after the end of the runway threshold... in the overrun area.
The overrun area is paved but is "soft"... so it sunk into the asphalt...

So close yet crossed the line!

This is why it was stuck and made the news!!!!

I guess the FOQA guys at JT is still as busy as ever! I guess their shortage of pilots make them accept the "adventurers"...

Oh well, I guess this is an "improvement", they remained on some sort of paved surface on this one!

May the improvements continue so they don't get on the news for stuff like this (or stuff worse than this) without trying to black out the news...

Congrat's, that may be the best played Airport reference ever on the website!
Bonus points if you can spot Kareem and go for the doubleheader.

Reminds me of the FedEx MD-11 that somehow veered off the taxiway and got stuck in the asphalt

Probably no worse than America West's cattle-prod slogan "Get On Board!"

Happens very often indeed. Runway incidents are becoming the new national sport in Indonesia.
