London-bound plane makes emergency landing at Baku airport

A bmi flight from Baku to London made a successful emergency landing at Baku's Heydar Aliyev International Airport (GYD/UBBB) on Wednesday.
The British Midland International Airbus A-321 took off from the Heydar Aliyev Airport at 12.08 local time (07.08 GMT) but had to turn back some 50 minutes into the flight because of a problem in one of the engines, the airline's Baku office told APA.
The plane landed in Baku at 13.50 (08.50 GMT). There was no problem during the landing and all 47 passengers and seven crew members are safe.
Technical staff are now working on the plane.
The flight might be able to take off later in the day but will probably be postponed until Thursday, the airline said.

Do the flights to/from Baku continue elsewhere? Or are they combined with another city?

Seems poor, alright. I think the BD A321s only hold about 150, or so. There is a very large 2-2 business class section, with 50" pitch, which extends beyond doors 2, almost half the cabin.

Still a load factor south of 30% though.
Next flights: MAN-ORK-LHR(EI)-MAN(BD); MAN-LHR(BD)-ORK (EI); DUB-ZRH-LAX (LX) LAX-YYZ (AC) YYZ-YHZ-LHR(AC)-DUB(BD)

I believe they stop in Tiblisi in both directions to and from Heathrow?

BD929 flies LHR-GYD-TBS, overnighting and then returning TBS-GYD-LHR as BD928 following morning. Took those flights last May and the LHR-GYD-LHR sectors were packed.

This might have been an off flight, and from what I understand GYD is a very high yielding destination?

GYD flights continue to either TBS or FRU. Loads can be very variable, some days nearly empty, the next day, not an empty seat in the house. Depends on shift changes in the energy sector in Azerbaijan. Business class loads are normally quite strong, and return business fares are around £2,500, flexible economy fares are around £1,300 and even a sale fare at the moment is £700+ for a 5:45 flight. Aircraft was G-MEDL with 57 passengers on board and 7 crew.

Me too, at LHR back in the glory days of Sir Mike B, Viscounts and DC-9s and a thriving, expanding domestic network that had BA worried enough to improve their own service. So sad to see what it's become.
RIP Dan-Air. Where the Secret was SERVICE.
