Was only a matter of time. A very popular and good yielding route for AF, with the number of daily flights making it a perfect candidate for A380 service.

Will it be able to fit at T2?

Why not SFO? I just came back last week from BEY via CDG to SFO and it was a 774 completely full. Not a single empty seat. Last year on the same route was the same thing.

I looked at the flight, and it looks like you can get Y+. when does AF get Y+ on the a380 - or when did they get it?

IF there is a terminal that parts could be coverted into 2 A380 gates its Terminal 2. The gates at the corners of the terminal would be perfect.

T-2 will eventually have a single A380 compatible gate, however the work has not been funded.

As to what AF might do, see my comments below
Will Airlines Move At Klax Once Tbit Is Completed? (by mozart Oct 26 2011 in Civil Aviation)

Otherwise in the interim AF can utilize one of the jetway remotes (which are A380 capable) and bus the passengers.

No idea. Most planes need to be towed into their gates. The only think I can think of is that they put the 380 at the middle gate on the east side (don't know the number). VS often puts their A346 or 744 in that gate with plenty of room, however it means not being able to use the gates on either side.

So Air France will have 2 ddaily A380 flights to LAX, I agree it was a matter of time... I also think LH will make a similar announcement soon.

How does this announcement affect Air Tahiti?

The 380 will be parked at TBIT.

no one arrival and one departure for the A380, I think the A380 is daily, and LAX service is 15x weekly, the other services are with 772s. looks like 3x week one of the 772 continue on to PPT, and 3x week a 772 will come back from PPT thru to CDG.

other news is AF will be dropping the 77W from LAX.

all the above info I gleaned from the AF website and

http://airlineroute.net/2011/10/27/af-lax-s12/

article states a380 will operate out of TBIT.

all in all AF CDG-LAX service looks like:

7x weekly A380
3x weekly 772 thru to PPT
5x weekly 772 only out and back from CDG

[edit] thank you to the post above fro answering my first question [end edit]

Glad to read there's still a 777 service to LAX, so I can avoid flying the always late if not grounded A380...!

I realize the TBIT has A380 capable gates but why wouldn't Air France and LAX modify a terminal 2 gate for A380's. Right now Qantas, Sinhapore Airlines and Korean fly A380's to LAX and soon more will. LAX needs to use other terminals for A380 beyond the TBIT.

Having just got back to the UK from LAX, I was surprised to see how many A380s there were there. The Korean A380 (1st time I had seen it) is lovely.

But in terms of terminals, isn't it really only TBIT and T2?

As a poster above mentioned it will be but they'll loose First Class/La Premiere service. AF 076 (CDG-LAX-PPT) and AF 077 (PPT-LAX-CDG) will be operated with 772s in a 35C-24W-248Y configuration. The other 772 flt (AF 072/069) will keep the 4P cabin. AF must have realized that the need for extra Y capacity would yield greater results than 4P seats I guess.

Excellent! It's not nice when a station has to downgrade W passengers due to a last minute equipment change!

Finally seeing LAX become the A380 Mecca it has been destined to become. QF, SQ, KE, and now AF. Now we just need LH, CZ, and I'm sure once the A388 has the range EK.

Ok, ignoring reality for a minute... I could see AF moving in with DL.    There are options. T2 is a private terminal, so there will have to be an 'arrangement' for an A380 gate. There is no reason a private terminal couldn't have the gate up and running by May.    I really hope T2 builds two A380 gates.    Ok, I read and comprehended what you posted... I think there is a chance for T2 (or T5) to win AF's business in the future. But for T2, there must be significantly more A380s delivered to build the business case for A380 gates.

Isn't this a capacity reduction on CDG-LAX? I thought that CDG-LAX was 20 times weekly this Summer (all with 777s).

From my years of spotting, AF switches to an A343 during the winter season.

I think what's happening here is AF has gone from a B744 during the summer season to an A380 during the summer season, to a B777 during the fall then finally to an A343 during the winter season. I think we'll see the A380 again here @ SFO during the summer season.

Simple answer is $$$.

As I stated in Reply 9, the eventual plans are to have an A380 capable gate at T-2, however work towards such has not commenced.

Well technically they took over the bonds and ownership of the terminal, the day-to-day management has been left still with LAX Two Corp which will continue to manage the place until atleast mid-2013.

While there is no short term incentuve to modify Terminal 2 into A380 capability, it should in the medium term. Terminal 2 is the best terminal at LAX . The TBIT is a smorgibord of airlines and its like Grand Central Station on Pacific Ocean.

PPT has long been operated by the A340, which had no F. In fact, there used to be F on these as well before they got remodeled, so PPT F service has been on and off for quite a while now. I'm not surprised to see it go this time.

What I don't get (from your link): "All of that will help us establish a more even playing field for all of the airlines so that they all compete on a more standard or more uniform level because (currently) some airlines are paying 40-year old rates while some have newer leases and are paying rates based on more recent appraisals,'' Castles said.

Huh? The airlines paid to construct the terminal!    It used to be common for airlines to own their terminals... sigh... IMHO it was to LAX's advantage to have some of the terminals privately owned sans the cost creep that LAX has.

In regards to T2 there is a very real possibility it and T1& 3 might get demolished under the current master plan if 24L gets moved to the south. It would seem sort of a waste of $$ for LAWA to make an A380 gate in T2 just to knock it down in a couple of years.
