August Air Travel Report (summary):

Just as an FYI, this is how the major airlines performed in the month of August (released today):

In short, NW was most punctual, while UA had the most delays. WN cancelled the fewest flights, with UA the most (many were pre-cancelled, however). AS had the best baggage handling, while HP had the most reports filed. WN had the fewest complaints, with UA the most per 1,000 passengers.
(all rankings are from best to worst):

1) On-Time % (major airports)
Northwest: 78.6
Continental: 76.9 (higher overall, than DL)
Delta: 77.0
TWA: 76.9
Southwest: 74.8
American: 73.1
Alaska: 72.6
US Airways: 67.5
America West: 60.0
United 43.7 (UA claims on-time performance has jumped from 40% through 8/27 to about 70% in Septemeber).

Baggage Handling (in terms of fewest mishandled bags per 1,000 passengers):
1) Alaska 3.70
2) Delta 3.96
3) Southwest 4.94
4) US Airways 4.99
5) Northwest 5.08
6) American 5.16
7) Continental 5.64
8) TWA 7.15
9) United 7.18
10) America West 8.16

Cancelled Flights (major airports):
