What Will Aeroflot Do With Orenair?

Tue Nov 01, 2011 1:30 pm

Russian Orenair is receiving its first 777 these days, a former Air Austral aircraft. A second one is to follow. As the small airline will be absorbed by Aeroflot soon I wonder what sense does it make to lease this minifleet now? Isnt it likely that Aeroflot is going to dump them rather quickly as they dont fit in their portfolio?

Aeroflot has ordered 777s for themselves so the Orenair 777s will fit in fine, engines aside.

Aeroflot has ordered 77Ws, two 77Es dont make much sense aside them. Especially for an airline flying many A333s.

There are other considerations than absolute fleet commonality, such as costs. I'm sure they got a great deal on the 77Es, I don't think there are many A333s floating around that can be grabbed cheaply.

All Orenair's types are oddballs to Aeroflot; they also don't have (anymore) Tu-154s and 738s and I can't see these being integrated. Maybe they'll just grab Orenair's routes and dispose of their fleet or keep them as a separate entity like Donavia.

Aeroflot (or at least some of its subsidiaries) are getting 737NGs:

I think Orenair has already gotten rid of the Tu-154s; the last photos in the database are from August and I can't find anywhere that confirms that they are still in the fleet.

They already received their 777 last week.

Most likely these 777s will be used for high density seating for charter flights to Hurghada, Sharm el-Sheikh and those type of destinations in the winter and Barcelona and greek islands in the summer which have enormous high demand.
