Bring Back The Peter Max 777.

Sat Nov 05, 2011 5:21 am

Any odds on UA bringing back the Peter Max livery on a 777 or 787? I had the pleasure of flying her to NRT, LHR, CDG, IAH, EWR, MAN, AMS, and LGW. Crazy to think they'd paint a 787 in this livery? I know there were as many haters on this site as lovers, but I really did appreciate flying 014 around the world for FedEx.

Although I was not a fan, it's always nice to have a plane in something different.

So, I would also like to have The Peter Max back.

I'm sure they secretly want it back as well, so that they can display some hate again!

However, I don't think we'll see it again, but something else might come and be just as loved (or hated)

I am all for it....if we sign a contract that no one will start the "where is Peter Max" thread.

God I hope not.

I liked the livery, different, very unique, but I got tired of reading about it about the 30th thread....Livery went away 3 years ago and we're still talking about it

I'm not a hater as you describe it, but I just don't see what's so special about it.. yes, it is a colorful paintscheme, but so what?

There are a lot of beautiful liveries out there already.

I'd rather see some sort of retro livery on it than see anything done that looks like it was applied with a canon full of Mary Kay.

The Peter Max looked like an explosion from a paint factory. I would hope there wouldn't be a chance of UA putting that awful scheme back in the air.

I'd prefer to see something new. Look at that logo in front of Door 1R: it says NYC 2000. We're 11 years down the road, I'm sure someone can come up with something similarly eye-catching but still refreshingly different by now.

Since it was painted on a CO jet and they are now UA, the odds are less then slim to none.

I loved reading the threads on the adventures of Peter Max.

Where were the threads tracking the day to day life of a widebody airframe?

There was something about Peter Max that inspired the threads and followers.

Wouldn't it be even more exciting to follow Peter Max as part of the CO/UA combined fleet?

I'd also love for QF to go Wunala Dreaming on the A380, or on a less avantgarde note for China Southern or Air France to give it a SkyTeam attire.

Peter Max was certainly not the most aesthetically pleasing paint scheme, but it was definitely one of the most striking ones to ever appear on a wide body. As far as special schemes are concerned, I take ugly and striking over classy and boring everyday.

That MH 747 is really something else! As for Peter, it's neat to see sensible-shoes CO colors turned into something completely wacky, but if they make a habit of it, it kind of loses its charm, know what I mean?

Boy. I had no idea it stayed on for that long!! I flew it in Dec ´99 EWR-IAH connecting form a DC-10 GIG-EWR. I´m not really into painting as one of the arts I would be a patron of if I was a millionaire, but when I saw that 777 after the 11hr red-eye the one thing that came to my mind was that you need to be sorta silly to consider that art... To each his own I guess.

No, I hope they don´t bring it back. I also hate the Ecuatoriana "phsycodealic" liveries. Eyesores all in my mind, that destroy the uniqueness of a machine that on its own, even on green primer, is a beauty and a piece of art.

I totally agree that these machines are all great looking in the buff too. I really do like AA's look for that reason. But I have to say I wouldn't mind seeing an updated Peter Max either.

Well, that is exactly the part I don't get. Yes, it is certainly a good looking aircraft I think, but there are many others that look just as good or better. I guess it could partly be because of the name. "Peter Max" is easy to say and I guess most aviation enthusiasts know which aircraft it is.

I think the key to Peter Max was that it was unique, it was not a livery for every a/c in the fleet but a one of, the fact that the entire a/c was painted made it easier for all to follow versus the unique name given to each a/c.

I wish more airlines would do so, even to the point of offering up incentives for folks to fly, it in some small way bought back the idea of flying just for the experience versus it's just businsss, a lot of us actually followed the adventures and tried to get to airports to get photos of or just to see the a/c, and this is for a model that had already been in service for a number of years. The novelty of the A380 is almost wearing off, at airports where it operates now it just a regular a/c arriving and departing, the 787 now has its time and due to numbers it will not last as long as the A380, so anything that can be done to bring the "joy and intrigue" back to aviation at reasonable cost is only helping.

We canot wait the number of years for new frames, the A350 is next and I'm not sure anyone is going to run after the A32X-NEO or the 737-MAX.

What is special is that as opposite to the Malaysia and other wacky liveries out there is that it acquired a human personalized memorable touch by simply holding a person's name. So it is much easier to spot and refer to Peter Max than about that "wicked Malaysia 747 aircraft with the crazy colours and the funky scheme". Peter Max will always be Peter Max and its own personality, short and simple.

Agree. But people (mainly Americans) are also still talking about PanAm, TWA, Eastern, Braniff etc... so I guess it's very hard for some people to say goodbye.
