Ok, so we may not be as successful at these as the our Irish cousins from across the sea, but recently we've seen a lot of transformation in the aviation scene in Scotland. So a quick run down:
BAA have announced they are to sell Edinburgh Airport
Lufthansa have introduced 3 x Daily E190 flights between ABZ and FRA.
FlyBe have introduced Inverness-Amsterdam flights.
Glasgow has seen new services to Stavanger (via ABZ) with Eastern Airways, 2 x weekly Air Nostrum/Iberia flights to Madrid and new route announcements from Jet2 to Rome, Rhodes and Heraklion.
Speculation over a Qatar Airways flights between Doha and Glasgow (although source is/was Wikipedia so should be taken with a huge grain of salt).
Improvements are apparently to be made to increase the PCN of the taxiways to allow it to support daily widebodies. The management are increasingly trying to convince a mid east carrier to launch flights from EDI -- Perhaps Etihad or Qatar are the best bets, although we can never rule out Emirates.
Rumours that MON are reopening their summer charter base at EDI - nothing confirmed so far though, dont know of this would be in addition to the TOM based a/c or replacing it. TOM are adding a limited service from EDI to SFB and CUN in S12.
It's looking likely that CO/UA are decreasing EDI-EWR to 1 x daily, although this is TBC, as of now, the 2nd flight isnt loaded for S12.
Whilst not directly linked, Turkish have announced they are starting daily flights to Gatwick. Glasgow has for a long time been rumoured to get a link to Istanbul.
There had also been rumours of PIA returning to GLA with a 2 x weekly B772 operation via Frankfurt. Nothing seems to have come to this.
easyJet are introducing Naples and Dalaman from Edinburgh next summer. They've also reintroduced Amsterdam from Glasgow.
It will also be interesting to see what happens with BMI, BMI regional and bmi baby
Feel free to contribute anything extra to this thread
