IAH To Add New Runway

Fri Oct 06, 2000 8:34 am

The new 2001 Department of Transportation budget has set aside money to add a 5th runway to IAH! According to a press release from Continental, the new runway will be 8,500 feet. Construction will begin late 2000 and become operational in early 2003. There is also a link in the aviation news section as well.

With new additions to the fleet and greater capacity at IAH, there is no doubt that CO will add additional destinations from IAH. Any speculation as to where?

8,500 feet is transcontinental-load length. Heavy segments up to EWR could use this strip, as well as the run up to Anchorage, down to Rio de Janeiro and Sao Paulo, and flights to Cali.

I meant Cali as California, not Colombia.

In addition to the new runway (8L/26R), I believe there are plans to lengthen 15R/33L to permit use by larger aircraft.
