Once all 12 4 class A380s are in service (including Nancy) they should be able to go daily on the SYD-HKG-SYD route.

3x A380s for the daily QF31/32
3x A380s for the daily QF9/10
2x A380s for the daily QF11/12
2x A380s for the daily QF93/94
1x A380 for the daily QF127/128

Total of 11 frames plus 1 spare.

Cheers

So are they still going to keep QF87/QF88 at 4 per week? I would have thought increasing that to a daily would have been more pressing (to offer twice daily services).

Would be nice to get a daily HKG service from BNE. Maybe one day...

Anyone think this will entice any customers to move from CX to QF from a product perspective?

Also, it is suprising that QF choose to have a P product on that route when CX don't...

Do they actually sell it as First, or simply seat Plats in Business up front?

Also Y+ is a good move since it is another reason to fly QF rather than CX.

So no A380 for SYD-DFW-BNE-SYD, at least for now. I think that's a shame.

I agree, however I dont think the early A380's can do it any better than the current 744ER's (but could be wrong). Great to see QF using the A380 at ports other than SIN/LHR/LAX regularly!

In all honesty its better that they're aiming to get to increase frequency (daily by July) rather than capacity on the existing frequencies

If that's true then there is little reason to apply the A380 to the route.

Wiki reckons 1195km extra still air range, but slower (I believe) so takes more of a penalty into the wind.

Just wait till the last 2 frames arrive -- that's when I think that we will start to see A380s on that route...

Anyway, this is excellent. After years of dodging me an A380 has finally presented itself to me! Booked to fly QF128 on Jan 22nd

Yes it is. Or maybe it is better to turn these flights to daily JQ?

So according to Wiki (whist not the most reliable source) QF currently have 10 A388 with another 10 on order. What other routes would be most likely to get an A388 service in the future?

My guess:

SYD-DFW-BNE-SYD
BNE-LAX-BNE
SYD-BKK-SYD
Daily SYD-HKG-SYD

Last 6 have been deferred, and may eventually be cancelled.

#11 and #12 have imminent delivery. I think #13 & #14 are coming in 2013. #1 is returning to service soon.

There are 2 more coming (next year?) and the other six have been deferred until the end of the decade at which point they will most likely replace the 744ERs 1-for-1

Given what QF have (not) said and Anet conjecture it seems that SYD-DFW will stay 744 (maybe complemented by an additional 787, possibly from BNE, in several years time if the market is big enough)

SYD-BKK no longer connects to the BA LHR service with the new times, so is now predominantly O&D. QF don't like O&D flights to Asia for some reason so it's most likely that this is still a 744 only because of no available A330s.

This leaves two aircraft to increase SYD-HKG to daily and add BNE-LAX 3x. This seemed to be the consensus (in as much as there was one) last time this came up.

I hope that helps!

Why's this need two aircraft? Timetable shows one (hard working) plane can do it:
SYD-HKG 1045-1755
HKG-SYD 1955-0700+1

Last I heard Nancy was returning Jan or Feb. Don't have better than that, sorry.

two aircraft to increase SYD-HKG to daily and add BNE-LAX 3x

1 for SYD-HKG and 1 for BNE-LAX

Now I think about it, that might underutilise the fleet. For some reason I was under the impression that there were only 12 coming, not 14.Therefore:

SYD-LHR = 3
MEL-LHR = 3
SYD-LAX = 2
MEL-LAX =2

= 10

1 for HKG, 1 spare

BNE-LAX 6xA380? I would have thought that getting it daily 747 would be #1 priority for the route, but with some 747s leaving the fleet in the next few years this might allow 747s to be freed up for JNB, SCL, DFW etc

^^ I just can't see the A380 going onto BNE-LAX for quite a while to come, even though someone has been stating that their sources keep telling them it will happen next year. The move onto SYD-HKG seems to quash that information.

Not to HKG... It's one of QF's premium business routes, and I imagine it's quite the money maker for them... More likely JQ take over SYD-BKK to free up necessary aircraft if needed.

Quoting byronicle6 (Reply 12):
SYD-DFW-BNE-SYD
BNE-LAX-BNE
SYD-BKK-SYD
Daily SYD-HKG-SYD

DFW -- yes, from 2014ish.
BNE-LAX -- maybe, personally I think it's more likely to be a move they make in 2019-20 (it's only at 6 weekly at the moment, and adding a daily direct DFW would be far more beneficial imo)
SYD-BKK -- I see being passed over to JQ in 2014-15, to tie in with their MEL-BKK flights.
SYD-HKG -- no doubt about it...

Quoting RyanairGuru (Reply 14):
Given what QF have (not) said

They have said that the A380 is a possibility down the track depending on how the market acts. There was a Fairfax article a few weeks ago that had its own thread, will try to find it...

In terms of A380 routes, I've long thought:

SYD-LHR via SIN 3
MEl-LHR via SIN 3
SYD-LAX 2
MEL-LAX 2

Either SYD-HKG (1) & SYD-FRA via SIN (3) or SYD-DFW (2) & second SYD-LAX/BNE-LAX (2)

Of course they could go to all those destinations on a less than daily basis...

Another thought -- if this flight is only operating four consecutive days per week then are there going to be A380 crew doing 3 night layovers (ie arriving on the Monday arrival and departing on the Thursday departure)??

Yes. QF's service is competitive on most of its long-haul sectors relative to the competition, but I would see CX currently having a superior offering to HKG. Back in July, before the announcement of cuts to QF international routes, I suggested SYD-HKG-LHR as a logical A380 route for competitive reasons.
