Lucky for Mason City, the XJ Saab's are continuing to be retired, so while the DOT is finding a replacement, CRJ-200's are being used for the short hop to MSP on most of the flights. I've even see CR9's scheduled on flightaware, although so far it's been CR2's. Great Lakes, Sovereign Air, and Air Choice one have all applied to pick up the EAS contract. I would be very surprised if Great Lakes doesn't win.
Delta Airlines, which will stop serving Mason City as soon as a replacement airline is determined, is phasing out its SAAB fleet, the 30-seat turboprop planes that have been serving smaller regional airports like the one in Mason City.
They have replaced them with the 50-seat CRJs that will serve the airport until a new airline takes over, said Osgood.
