Monarch Airlines' 2nd Enthusiast's Day

Fri Nov 11, 2011 5:33 pm

Hi All,

I spotted this evening that Monarch Airlines are offering their second "Enthusiast's Day" in mid-December. The day includes;

Flights on "Enthusiasts only" A330-200 and A321-200 flights
Ramp Tours at London Gatwick, and Manchester Airports
Hangar tour of the Monarch hangars at Manchester

Price is only £89. Details can be found on the Monarch website;

Looks like a good day out!

Just looked into this and it looks like great value for £89 and an A330 ride too, something ive yet to do, only one concern is, even though its a domestic service, will you be required to use a passport instead of a photographic id as you go into secure areas on the airport?

Best to give them a ring about the passport issue, might be an issue.

I spoke to Monarch Reservations his evening, and booking won't be available until Monday... So best to call after then.

If certain people I know who owe me money ever decide to give it to me, I shall hopefully be on this. It's the day after my last tutorial at University, so time wise t's fine and the itinerary looks great.

Well, £89 is pretty affordable, should be able to scrape it together even if I don't get paid. Likewise, would be good to catch up!

That's very affordable, and most tempting (especially with LGW-MAN on an A330!) but I'm doing a flight less than a week before into Manchester, and it's a very long day including a 3.5 hour drive to LGW

If it were from MAN I would do it hands down, but from LGW it just wouldn't work driving to the opposite end of the country, only to fly back again and then back to the opposite end again, to drive back home!

Hope they do another MAN one soon!
Next flight: Feb 2012 - BHX-CPH-BHX - SK MD87 / CRJ900

I've just tried ringing the reservations number and it just cut me off. Hopefully there are some seats left. The price is great, roughly the same price as return flights to manchester from heathrow so what they include (i.e. the tours, staff, aircraft etc) is not bad at all.

EDIT: i just got through to them. They said the trip does not go live on their system till monday.

Just curious - Is this an A330 going to MAN for a service, and an A321 returning from a service back to LGW?

If so, cracking idea to make a couple of quid on the back of this!

I suspect that's wht they'll be, yes. Positioning flights, so a brillient way of raising revenue on what would be empty flights.

Sounds like a great day out. The only problem being I live in Nottingham so way nearer MAN than LGW. Seems stupid to drive all the way south to go back up north!

I believe that there's no APD to pay when a flight departs and arrives at the same airport (without touching down anywhere else) so that's some cash saved.

But these flights don't... LGW-MAN, bus tour and maintenance facility visit, then MAN-LGW.

If I can get the day off work and it's not sold out yet, I'll be doing this...

Except it takes off from LGW and lands in MAN.

Looks good though for that price... I remember MYT doing 1 or 2 but im sure were much more expensive than this!

Got an e-mail today from Monarch confirming my booking, and got my models ordered, the guy I spoke to told me the A332 should be G-SMAN, makes sense as G-EOMA is being leased out to Garuda at the moment for Hajj flights. He also said there was a great deal of interest from people who would have liked to have started at Manchester rather than Gatwick. Now if that comes off pleeeeeeease could it include an A300

My little old auntie would love that, she's already had a personal tour of the cockpit of A388 MSN001 in Toulouse, been around the factory twice and we had to drag her off her last flight, FlyBE Man to Edinburgh after she got another cockpit tour

Here's last winters Monarch A300 schedule :

Mon
LGW/TCP MON4704
LGW/LXR MON4620
LGW/LXR MON6874*

Thur
MAN/SSH MON4952
LGW/SSH MON6814*

Fri
LGW/BJL MON4514

Sat
MAN/SSH MON4362
LGW/GNB MON2620 & MON4214
LGW/GNB MON2084*

Sun
MAN/SSH MON6586
LGW/GVA MON2404
LGW/GNB MON2546*

Doesn't seem like they do THAT much flying during the winter ? Surely one would be free for the day to do MAN-LGW-MAN ?

To those going on the LGW-MAN-LGW trip : Will you be able to choose your seat before the flights ?

By the looks of the email you can pre-book your seat but at a cost.

Extra Leg Room seats and seats in the Premium Cabin on the A330 are in limited supply, but are available to be pre-booked along with standard seating as well for anybody that wants to reserve specific seats. Standard seats are available at £4.99 per sector, and extra leg room seats are priced at £8.99 per sector.

It's just a shame that its starting to seem like they charge you for absolutely everything.
