NK has been ignored by most everybody, but WN announcing FLL-SJU is a real swipe at them.
Not really ignored by everyone, but in FLL AA
and US tried (unsuccessfully) to add flights down to central america/carribean but combination having to use Terminal 4 for Customs/Immig (long delays and transferring to another terminal for continuing connections) combined with low airfare by NK
it was not financially viable for either to operate many flights...
Terminal 4 is horrible for Int'l connecting pax arriving not only non connecting Int'l pax. Having to clear customs/immigration then having to recheck your bag and do TSA
security again is a major problem (Time, liquids, convenience etc)
I think WN
is logical since AirTran operates(d) flights to SJU
from various Florida cities already doing FLL
was the next step not necessarily a swipe at NK
. Many markets will overlap in the future.
In the grand scheme of things I think most airlines are not worried about NK
is not worried about them, let's be realistic if one or two flights a day to a destination make or break you then something is wrong in your business plan when offering hundreds of flights daily systemwide.
