El Al Fleet News

Wed Nov 16, 2011 9:33 am

LY is seeking to rejuvenate its fleet.
The 757 will be replaced by B739ER,the oldest B762 will leave the fleet.
Also to be noted that LY is re-considering ordering the B787 after the order from 2008 was cancelled by the former CEO
(silly decision in my opinion).
links sorry,still only in Hebrew)

As I can't read Hebrew I do not know what it says....
Anyway, the only thing that is certain is that El Al will choose Boeing planes anyway.....

From planespotters I could come up with a fleet age of 12,9. Not horrible, but skewed as they have some 738s that are merely a couple of years old. Does El Al have a strategy at all (other that possibly connecting Israel to the diaspora)?

No strategy (so it seems),the company keeps adding second hand planes when it's obvious it needs to replace the 767's which are in their 20's and in horrible condition(interior wise)

From my understanding of the article LY is reconsidering the 787 for two main reasons

1)replace aging 767s
2) to allow for equipment downgrades in the slow winter season on routes where the range of a 777 is needed but the plane ends up departing at half capacity

Id be surprised if they made moves on this quickly tho..

Also, didn't LY just order some 739ERs within the past year?

Do you feel that LY was conservative with its fleet (upgrades) because of Tower and Israir biting the dust? Less competetition.

I do hope LY springs for some Dreamliners. And it wouldn't hurt to ad a 747-8 or two to the mix.
Wan't there talk of LY getting some Airbus birds a couple years ago?

And back in the day did LY ever consider the L1011 in addition to the 747's at the start of the wide bodied revolution?

The 767s fly to, as stated LTN, but also CDG, JNB, YYZ, PEK, BOM, DME, and other European destinations when demand is high

Out of interest is there a large Jewish population in North London/Home Counties?

I know that Tottenham has a large Jewish support base so that would imply the answer was yes, but I thought I'd check...

And while we on the subject, where do they send the 777s? JFK, LHR. Where else?

Yup.. North London and East London (stamford hill).. Not so sure there are LARGE ones here in bedfordshire where LTN is but the flights seem to do very well. For your 777 question we also get them in LTN.. every Friday in the summer and sometimes twice a week it is a 777 service into Luton.

I see a 748 order eventually to replace the 744. Here's hoping anyway.

I dumped at the gybe mark in strong winds when I looked up at a Porter Q400 on finals. Can't stop spotting.
