LAX Terminals

Fri Oct 06, 2000 1:35 pm

I've noticed that LAX has an international terminal. However, some international airlines share the other terminals with domestic carriers. Why do some international airlines use the international terminal and why do others use the "regular" terminals? Who decides where airlines are situated in the terminal structure? And which airlines are located at the international terminal? Thanks.

LAX is a mess when it comes to this. I think the Bradley building was meant to be the International one. But Terminal 2, Delta terminal and United has one for international flights. I think they where modified for this with the expansion. They also have the stands at the west side of the field (I only see Asain airlines there) where they bus the pax. customs. A while a go we had a funny with Alaska, we got bused somewhere but went to a terminal unfortunatle I can not remember which one. When the airline starts the forms to go to LAX, that is probably when they find out.

Yes, I remember a few years back when CO made a trade UA for gates at LAX. CO gave United a couple of gates at their terminal and UA gave CO a few gates at Terminal A in EWR for us to use on Atlanta, Chicago, and one other city's flights which I can't remember at the moment. Might have been Dallas.

I think also that the international terminal could not fit all the international traffic. Plus, it makes no sense to have a Delta passenger check in and fly at the international terminal when DL has such a nice terminal at LAX. They have all the facilities they need for those terminals; I think it works well. LAX is just a quickly growing airport with limited space to grow.

Lufthansa flies with United out of Terminal 6. Air Jamaica flies out of Terminal 5.

International flights are basically out of ANY terminal that can handle international passenger processing. Terminals 1, 3, 4, and 8 currently cannot handle international passengers. This is why AA's international flights to LHR and CDG use Delta's Terminal 5 even though AA's base is Terminal 4.

The international terminal was built in 1984 for the Olympics. Since so many international airlines fly to LAX, some use the gates that are attached to the international terminal, and some use the remote gates on the West end of the airport.

All the airlines Planenutz mentioned are in Terminal 2, not Terminal 3. Air Canada and Canadian are both operating from Terminal 2 (they have not moved to one of the United terminals).

XQF's list is both incomplete and has errors. TWA and Frontier are in Terminal 3, not Terminal 2.

This map shows most of the airlines and what terminals they are in, there may be a few omissions:

Being a travel agent I head many, many complaints about connecting flights at LAX, espec when it comes to having to change terminals. I have may customers who when travelling to Europe refuse to connect there.

Good evening to all! This a topic very close to my heart. I work in conjucntion with the Southwest Airlines facilities management department on this issue everyday. There are primarily two reasons why all the international carriers do not operate out of the Bradley International terminal. They are lack of space and airline preference. First, the Bradley terminal is simply too small to handle all of the air traffic currenly serving LAX. In fact, "remote terminals" have been built west of the main terminal area to accomodate all of the additional aircraft. Second, some international airlines that code-share with domestic carriers have managed or have attempted to acquire gate space next to or near their code-share partners. Hope this clears things up a little!

The best place at LAX is Garret Aviation, land there and they will drive you to In and Out, or any terminal. What service! I take my 172 there so I can have a burger, and a good photo session!
