Where Do New B717's Come From?

Sun Nov 20, 2011 6:48 am

Qantas, Hawaian and Blue all have outstanding orders for the B717. But with the model out of production, where do they come from?

The leftover 717s that once belonged to Midwest and later Mexicana.
I'd take the awe of understanding over the awe of ignorance any day.

Outstanding orders? No. Any orders these airlines may have had were filled. Douglas (Boeing) shut the production line down when no more orders were forthcoming.

If they want more 717's, they'll find them on the used market, as HA recently did when they beefed up their interisland route structure. Other than that, they'd have to look for a different aircraft.

I noticed the same thing on the Wikipedia pages for HA and Blue1. Typically when an airline has *used* aircraft's on order, there's an annotation which states that. Somebody should update, I don't know how.

Not sure why QF would have an order. Their former JQ 717s were all sold off to NC a few years ago - they are being operated on National Jet/Cobham's airline service using the QantasLink name, but they are not actually owned by QF. NC did recently purchase an additional two aircraft to use on their QantasLink service, so maybe this is where the confusion over QF having an order has come from.

Boeing orders/deliveries data on their website shows the last 2 of the 155 717s built delivered May 23, 2006 (one each to AirTran and Midwest).

I would not be at all surprised that some 717's will become available on the used market some time in the 2 or 3 quarter of 2012 as WN starts moving FL's operations into WN. They have not officially said that they are going to remove the 717
from WN's operations but the Mr. Kelly, CEO of WN has made several comments that the 717 will have short service time in the WN operation. And FL has around 80 717's, I betting that several of them will go out of the fleet as the B738's arrive at DAL.

I think what dkramer7 in reference to QF was referring to was that in JAN2012 (i think) 2 more 717's will be joining QantasLink and may have been requesting where these two were coming from.

Well son, when two B717's find each other attractive...    Ha Ha sorry. That was the first thing that came to my mind when I saw the title of this thread.

I was thinking about saying something like that but bit my tongue
