LO New Livery Update

Sun Nov 20, 2011 10:44 am

Greetings,

LO started painting one of its 737s in the new livery, unveiled earlier this year at the Dreamliner presentation. The first frame to be painted is 737-400 SP-LLL, a former Centralwings aircraft:

Big version: Width: 500 Height: 184 File size: 10kb
New LO livery on the 737

Is it still going to have the nice grey/silver base coat, the 737 image isn't too clear?

A red stripe like this would have been a nice touch.

AFAIK, it will be regular white. Which is sad, because I am a fan of the silverish pearl-coat paint.

I thought that they changed their minds and redo the updated livery so it does not look like a copy of Tarom's (RO), or added skidmarks at the bottom of the plane...   . I would have prefered it to have the body a shade of grey or silver with that livery, instead of the euro-white. But either way, great livery! Good job Tarom... I mean LOT.

Well, it's a tiny refinement and is still distinctive with the giant LOT on the front. I do wish they made their symbol more of "something" vs a fast flying mosquito in a circle, besides TAROM or a bad version of LH's crane.

While I'm the world's worst speller...perhaps on this thread many *A.netters will spell "alot" as A LOT!

But they really ought to work on that very meaningless symbol.

The new livery kinda of plain without having the blue stripe across the fuselage.

Waste of time, leave it as it is because the new scheme has nothing to it at all.

If they used silver paint like on the 787 then that would be a different matter.

I like this update.

Unlike many airlines' attempts at a new livery that ends up being a an uninspired blanket of euro-white, it stays rather true to it's predecessor and is simply a refreshed look. I think a lot of the "hate" is simply due to humans not liking change.

Give it a couple months and I think most everyone will like it.

I like the new livery, but it's not really new. All they have done is removed the big blue stripe. And, that makes the offset "POLISH AIRLINES" look very awkward in it's current position. They should move it down so it's flush with the |||||||||||||| of the "T" in "LOT."

But it's not!    It's a beautiful pearl white, with the traditional oversized LOT titles, and that magnificent tail preserved.

Sure, the blue line is gone, but it could be worse (Finnair).

The tail now looks practically the same as TAROM!

EDIT: I've just realised that the similarities go further than the tail... look at the whole TAROM livery side-by-side with the new LOT one!

I honestly feel it looks much too "plain". That 787 looks fantastic, the 737 just looks boring. It'd be so nice if airlines realised there was more choice than white.

I quite like it with the silvery/grey, especially on the 787. It reminds me of what Air Canada did with the light blue.

A LOT of blandness!

What a boring design. The only distinctive detail, the blue cheatline prolonging the "T" of LOT, is gone. Whats the sense to go more generic?

Its something that baffles me, You would think airlines would want to have a nice strong image of themselves. Something that stands out, A little creativity that shows off what they represent. I know alot of people say "its just paint.. service is all that matters blah blah" But I am not someone that agrees with that. Everything would be black and white with no logos at all if branding didnt matter.

Atleast Air Transat ditched the all white tail and added some blue, I really like what they came up with in the end. One of very few new schemes I think look good.

Virgin Australia, Finnair, JAL .. All so weak.

It seems anytime a decent or creative livery comes along the airline dissapears pretty fast.. Like hmm "Australian Airlines" colours.

The new livery indeed isn't that imaginative as it resembles Tarom almost 100%. The enlarged tail logo is the new trend in the airline industry so that's nice but not new.

You know, there were some pretty big protests recently in Poland about the national football team's new uniforms, so I guess if everyone there hates the new livery then maybe they'd do something similar.

If im not mistaken the staff already rebelled against the first livery LOT came up with which lost the logo and had LOT written on the plane 2 times. Amazingly there was a worse rendition then this.

An airline brand is so much more than just a livery. People can critique it as much as they want, but we have yet to see what it'll actually look like on an airplane. We don't really know the shade of silver/grey they're using (could be a very whitish silver, could be a NW-esque metallic silver), we don't know how it'll look in the sun, the shade, in rain, in snow;
most importantly we don't know how the livery will interact with the rest of the brand, and what LOT wants out of their new design. All we have are impressions and renderings of how it'll look on two aircraft.

I see what they're going for conceptually, and if executed right I think it could look fantastic.

The crane symbol has been around since 1929 and it is very recognizable around Europe. I think this is the reason LH keeps their crane.

I think they should leave everything as is except make the white silver white.

Those protests were not against the new uniforms, but against the removal of Polish national symbol, the White Eagle. It was replaced by the logo of Polish football federation (PZPN), which is a disgrace.

It's like replacing American national team's red, white and blue with overall pink.

The re-vitalized LOT Polish Airlines livery is a minor re-vitalization and is for certain not the improvement an airline brand needs nowadays. Airlines need outspoken, reliable and distinctive images not this "middle of road" solutions. This is old school.

I totally agree with you. Probably the most important criteria was to keep the costs low to re-vitalize the brand. Just my guess.

You have a point there but I can imagine the price to re-vitalize your brand depends on which branding consultancy you hire to do the job. In other words: You get what you pay for (which on its turn is a personal opinion on how you value/rank the outcome).

Instead of wasting money on updating the livery for one that lacks character and is very minor, they should have spent that money to update cabins and cabin service, especially on long haul routes.

Who is online
