Contact Air Out Of Lufthansa Regional Next Year?

Wed Nov 23, 2011 9:47 am

There are rumors about Contact Air leaving "Lufthansa Regional" division by the end of S12.
What will happen to them if confirmed? I don't think they will be able to survive as an independent carrier.

Tbh, I never knew that Contact Air was part of LH regional.

Don't they operate an all Fokker fleet?

So, the carriers that operate for OS and LX (eg, Tyrolean and Swiss European) are not considered members of LH Regional? Where exactly do they fit in?

And why so many carriers? why not just consolidate them?

Quoting lows (Reply 3):

Swiss European is really part of LX. As I understand it, they only identify it separately since their Avro RJ100 pilots and flight attendants work under a different union agreement than LX Airbus crews.

Tyrolean and Swiss European are daughter companies of their respective mother carriers, unlike EN for example. It would be a too blunt move by LH to name a daughter of a (technically speaking) different company part of one's own Regional subsidy. In that respect, it gives OS and LX some right to decide on their subsidies' operations.
It gives the employees of LX's and OS's Regionals the feeling that they do not belong to a company based in a different country. Simply speaking, it's psychology.

Concerning the OP:
Where do these rumours come from? Is there a source you can link us to, or somebody inside who leaked?

I've been hearing this rumour for a while now too, but nowhere did I see a due date such as S'12. If it were to come true that Contact Air is leaving the Lufthansa Regional network then I don't think they'll be able to cope with the new found competition, given they already had to sell the ATRs to remain on top of things.
