UA 787 Totally New Interior Colors?

Sun Nov 27, 2011 9:37 pm

On A.net I have seen 2 photos of the BF interiors as Boeing finalizes the first 787 for delivery, that appear as if the seat structure is white, or close to white, tufted brown leather seats and a groovy blue carpert with a wavy large "sonic-like" pattern. Am I just seeing things? It looks very cool--but has UA/CO announced their would be special interiors or even a special livery? I have not read any thing announced either way.

I thought this was just a Boeing interior on one of the test aircraft, rather than a specific customer interior?

I think it would be great if UA redid their interrriors, new carpets, seat covers etc something not CO not UA. I think something with style would be nice! Then have the uniform in line with this scheme (any more previews or a date announced for it's reveal?).

I think this is an area CX, BA, QR, LX and supprisingly US do best in each has their own styles, not looking at the seats; just carpets, bulkheads, lighting, and seat covers. CX is my favorite very soothing and relaxing! Whilt not my cup of tea the US interiors show style too and they are an American carrier so it can be done. CO has great seats but as shown by a thread here on the 764 with all that dark grey look s little like a prison.

I haven't heard anything anywhere on the interwebs, though I would LOVE for it to be true. I prefer the UA seat cover to CO's, but for the rest of the interior furnishings, I prefer CO's. But that's just my preference; pre-merger, I was hoping for a new CO livery to go with the 787... we'll never know.

The interiors of N787BA (or whichever bird was at the airshow, I think ZA003), were Boeing spec, thought they DID have CO's BizFirst seats installed.
But I seriously (sadly) doubt we'll see headrests with the D R E A M L I N E R logo on them in service. Bummer- it'd be cool if they were there.

But I'm definitely tired of the blue checked seats on CO.... I thought those were ugly the first time I sat in one, way back in 2002.

That's the airshow 787 (ZA003), not the interior of any particular customer.

Exactly. It's a composite of several different possible interior items. It's supposed to show off what customers can do.

It's ZA003. I'm not sure they're stock CO seats though...they've got 787 Dreamliner branding on them.

I believe the current CO seat covers date back to the early '90's when the current paint scheme & uniform (for the most part) was introduced. I really wish they had created a new paint scheme using the CO globe. The CO brand hasn't changed in 20 years.

The newer UA seat covers are nice. I like how there's different seat covers for Economy Plus & Economy.

They just rolled out the first fully reconfigured post-merger 767-400ER, and it has different color covers on Economy Plus and Economy seats. But the BF seats look much as they did before, imho.

Assuming the interior is now sorted, what about the exterior colors? Has anyone heard if there is going to be something different on the 787? Obviously, the gray engines, wings, stabs are now going to be white. How about the belly? This will obviously make the gold stripe out of place, if they go white on the belly too.

From the photos I saw, the coach seat covers also look the same as the current CO seat covers.

Dreary is a pefect word when describing CO's economy seat covers. I mean, can't they make even a small effort toward design? Especially with no bulkhead design, jeez, the plane looks like they bought it at a bargain basement sale!

This is what happens when a-netters are left unchecked and unattended by friends and family members! I take it the Wife/girlfriend/partner was out of town when these were brought into the house?   Looks like the drink service is decent in this economy section at least.

Hahahaha! Actually my partner works for Continental and was coming up on his 25th anniversary with the company when I just so happened to buy the seats off of eBay. When they arrived, I was like "look at what I bought for you to celebrate your 25th anniversary at Continental!!! And by the way, if you ever dare leave me, these are coming with me, but I hope you enjoy your gift!"

Yeah they really should do something. I recall flying on a CO A300 in 1995 and it having the then new blue checker design.

The closest row of seats look very much a different color to me than the others. Perhaps its the flash.

There were a few versions of the CO blue cloth seats. Going by memory the 757s, DC9s, 733, and 735 had those 90s slimline seats, the bottom picture in reply 8. These were the same kind of seats that were installed on the NW DC9s in the late 1990s (now it delta blue leather.) Many of these seats stuck around into the mid to late 2000s and they might even still be flying around on the 735s. I flew EWR-LAX in 2007 and they still had them installed (pre AVOD days.) They were OK in terms of comfort overall.

The A300s and DC10s had these thicker versions of the seats described above. Can't remember if they were comfortable or not.

The DC-10 coach seats were nicely padded, but legroom was sorely lacking. The traytables folded in half since the top part of the seatback contained the oxygen masks. Made a nice cocktail table.

It is hard to believe that the FIRST customer for the 787 in America would put everything inside and on the outside as if were just another 767 or 777. Even the least imaginative executive at UA/CO would have suggested something done to chest pound. Even United had a special "United 777" logo when they got the 777 first. There was a of promotion done with it and FA pins and UA777 stickers for kids.

I personally loath the CO checkered pattern and it's seriously time to a change on the 787. I can understand the costs associated with changing the fleet. but even UA got rid of the famous rainbow seats after they got tired.

There in a rendering of the 787 in Hemisphere's magazine and it sports the regular CO livery with the new UNITED branding on front. NO special livery indicated.

But when I saw those shots, and it was the new BF seat being used I was so excited that the interior of the United 787 would reflect the newness and the advanced nature of the 787. To put in all the regular old stuff in the 787 is a crime.

Like buying a brand new Lexus and putting in the same interior as your 20 year old Volkswagon Passat.

United staff can opt to wear a united branded 787 lanyard. There are lots of little 787 things planned.

There have been NO released pictures of the inside of a UA 787. That being said, sadly, its just another plane. No fanfare really required.

Maybe a small tweak of the exterior is coming. I've seen recent renditions of the UA 787 with the copper-gold stripe straight in line with the radome, completely horizontal, not sloped upward from the nose toward the cabin doors as seen before. The 787's stripe looks like it's a few feet below the door sill, although aligned with the nose.

No pics to share of the 787, but for what it's worth, here's UA 747-422 N128UA at FRA on October 2nd:

It looks much better, IMO. Less gray, and more white space for the new large UA titles to make an impact. 787 should be similar.

What UA will do with the interior is a mystery. I'm still concerned by the talk of their going from the originally decided 8-abreast in coach to 9. If that is even true. Seat coverings are secondary, in my mind, to that.

You can find it on all P.S. IPTE and the majority of the Airbus fleet. I haven't seen it on a domestic 752 yet but that doesn't meen that they are not out there.

UA seems to cover the front of all the bulkheads with a very tasteful silver with a nice modern grid using a silver raised bar -- also the wainscoting is navy carpet. What they didn't do was wrap that silver design into the lav corridors and the sides of walls - and kept the tan mush walls. But looking straight on like the photos it looks really nice, but from a 3 quarters view it looks mismatched!

I hate the tan mush sidewalls, especially with the new bulkhead walls installed in F on domestic planes. You're right; it does look very mismatched. The inconsistency is annoying. PMUA had so many beautiful plans but they were never implemented completely.
