ANA 788 Config Question

Mon Nov 28, 2011 3:52 pm

I was just looking at this picture and notriced something that confused me:

This photo shows cradle seats in a 2-2-2 configuration and what appears to be Y+ behind. Looking at ANA's website, the only configuration they show has the new staggered J seating and no Y+. This has probably been asked a bunch of times, but I couldn't find any answers. Why does their website show a clearly different configuration? Is the one shown on the site for aircraft that will be delivered later this year for international routes? Any other information will be helpful.

Thanks.

The seatmap on their website is of the Long Haul configuration. While these birds do regional flights, they have an enlarged Y cabin (that's Y you're seeing in the photo, not Y+) and a regional J product.

First plane with the layout on their site should arrive soon -- opening services to FRA from HND early next year...

The staggered J seating is their international product. The cradle seats shown is the regional product that the 787s are currently configured with. ANA's website shows off both on the 787: http://www.ana.co.jp/promotion/b787/en/cabin/#02

And that is Y (at 8 abreast seating) behind J . ANA's Y+ product looks completely different (and I believe is not available on the 787 right now).

You are seeing regular economy. 8 abreast economy is a very generous width on the 787. ANA's medium and long haul 8 abreast seating is very comfortable.
If you have never designed an airplane part before, let the real designers do the work!

The hard shell backs of the seats are what threw me off. I forgot that ANA utilizes sliding cushions for recline, and the hard backs are part of that design.
