Looks great. I'm surprised they're doing it on the 737 though and not the 319/320/321. It seems the trend at other carriers (AerLingus, Air France, Lufthansa, etc) is to put their retro liveries on an Airbus. While I am a Boeing fan, I think the Airbus has great lines for these kinds of things.

To each their own. No Tupolevs or Illyushins to spare, I guess.

On the US retrojets, it was particularly weird to have the Boeing 767 stripes an Airbus for the Piedmont retrojet.

Piedmont's 767 for comparison. Note Boeing typeface. http://www.airliners.net/photo/Piedm...d=b85206d1c28ef5803bbd91e268772da8 Sorry to divert from topic.

Looks good to me! In fact, for some reason it looks like a 737 that belongs to the Thai government/Royal Family...

It's about time! Can't wait to see the real thing. I wonder what they will do with the titles given that, strictly speaking, Ceskoslovenske Aerolinie is an airline of a non-existent country. I hope for nostalgia's sake they keep things original. It would be quite befitting, given that this aircraft is apparently meant to operate predominantly out of Bratislava.

Yes, it's interesting that they've decided to go for a retro 737, given that they're phasing this type out, with just 6 examples remaining. IMO the livery will look better on the 737 than it would on the less sleek albeit more efficient A320.

I really wish CSA the best, given the tough time they've been going through. One of the oldest airlines in the world and IIRC either the second or third to introduce jet aircraft (TU-104, 50 years ago).

Interesting that they decided to include the "Ceskoslovenske" titles.... I know it is part of the history but could hit some sensitivities, particularly in Bratislava.
Next Flights: LHR-OSL (738), OSL-CPH (320), CPH-LHR (321), LHR-HEL (359), HEL-LHR (359)

Now that is retro. Even I don't remember that scheme.

Maybe they would have been better off with this one?

If they put something else there then it would equal to history rewriting. We had enough of that during our dark years. No sensitivity issues on this side of the border

Hopefully I'll be able to see this one at PRG on Jan 20th in the morning when I'm arriving from ILZ ....

The scheme suits the 735 Classic well.

WOW! This is one extremely smart-looking retro!

It sure does not matter whether it is applied on an Airbus or a Boeing ... it looks great.

For some reason, few airlines - perhaps with exceptions such as ANA and Thai - seem to want retro liveries applied on wide-bodied aircraft.

These liveries aren't designed to hang around for ever and it is a LOT more expensive to paint a widebodied aircraft in a bespoke livery like a retro one.

Why? Licensing?

I'd imagine if an airline chose to paint a new aircraft, straight out of one Boeing's plants, into a retro livery that it would cost the same as painting into a contemporary livery.

Unless the stencils (whatever they use, I don't understand) are that expensive..

Didn't they introduce a special livery on one of their 737s a few years ago when they celebrated their 80th anniversary? That special livery shows the first aircraft they flew back in the early days of commercial aviation.

I spotted this particular aircraft when I went to Prague back in 2005.

Here is the link in my blog:

I agree that they should have introduced this retro livery on an A320 instead of a 737. Like Babybus mentions, The red livery dating from the Communist Era (70s and 80s) would have been nice.
