How Did Orka Morgan Fly To Tenerife Today?

Tue Nov 29, 2011 7:11 pm

Hi All,

Today Orka Morgan was flown to Tenerife, I assume from Amsterdam.
Morgan was found in the Dutch waddenzee in 2010, very weak, and too young to survive alone. The last one and a half year it regained strength and grew up in a Dolfinarium in The Netherlands.

In Tenerife it will have more personal space as the Dolfinarium in Harderwijk was designed for .... Dolphins, and not large Orkas.

Does anyone know what airline it transported, and how a transport like this takes place? Media reports that there was at least one person with the Orka at all time.

Kuzu Air Cargo, with an A310F.

I didn't see the Orka as i passed by but would imagine it being carried in some sort of tank construction. Having someone tend to the animal the entire way would be quite normal. We see it all the time with the transport of bigger animals.
I believe in coincidences. Coincidences happen every day. But I don't trust coincidences.

Do you mean Orca, as in Killer Whale?.

Yes, that is what the OP means.

Big story here in Holland, and a lot of turmoil between various groups on what had to be done i.e. bringing it over to Tenerife or back to the wild.

I had the same of kind of questions on how such a big animal is transported by air. Must be quite an operation.

And who is paying for it??

Reminds me of the FedEx whale movement, I know there was a thread on here somewhere but I can't find it.

Anyhoo, this is one YouTube clip of it:

Nah, it was an orca they transported, not a sperm whale.

Had it been a humpback whale, they would have probably used this:

Ans if everything else fails, there is of course:

I thought the Beluga cargo compartment doesn't get pressurized in flight, does it?
Never ask somebody if he's a pilot. If he is, he will let you know soon enough!

The whale flew with a Kuzu Airlines 31Y. TC-VEL. So not with the scheduled MP flight which flies to BOG via Tenerife.

What is your problem? It was a serious question. Not that Beluga (whats in a name) ever would be used for this kind of projects, but it was something I didn't know for sure and asked for confirmation.

I noticed the joke. Just asked the question out of curiosity.
