|Quoting Burkhard (Reply 1):|
Why can there be more airlines on the market as car makers?
May I suggest some are a little too caught up in the alliance hysteria desperately advertised by the old school "legacy" airliines? I have yet to see the alliance addiction conjure up reliable profits year-in and year-out like some of the non-allied airlines.
Is Ryanair in an alliance? They carry more in Europe than Lufthansa or BA
Is Southwest in an alliance?
FlyBe? A surprisingly big airline with lots of destinations.
The number of people who need to be in Hong Kong one week, Paris next week and Chicago the week after that is actually very tiny and so alliances are overrated...the vast majority of us fly only in our local region or to other regions on our local airline almost exclusively.
