First CO 757 With E+ In Service Yesterday

Sat Dec 10, 2011 1:09 am

The first of the 41 pre-merger CO 757s started flying yesterday in its new configuration of 16-45-108.

All 41 will be complete by the end of January.

Its flying UA 8 tonight to LHR (12/9), and will fly EWR-DUB tomorrow. (12/10)

Are you sure? According to FlightAware this aircraft appears to have had a few days out of service about 10 days ago. It left LAX today 1:21 late as Flight 16

Mobile UA shows that is aircraft 0107 and the seat map shows 159 Y seats. If this is a Y+ bird, then the seat map is off. At this time all the rows forward and including the exit rows have people seated in them. Maybe either row 11 or 12 (shown full) is really blocked, but showing occupied. My guess is that row 14 should be the row removed by Y as it is the last row before the The only Y row that is completely empty is row 38.

I don't know the tail number, but I'm certain about the flight schedule info.

LHR today is what is _supposed_ to have happened. I can't promise it did. I can promise it did domestic turns yesterday and today.

It looks like the aircraft is aircraft 0141. It is flying right now on flight 62 EWR-MAD. The seat map shows no row 14.
Recently it flew on teh below flights, maybe indicating the seat reconfig was done in MCO.
12/8
1170 MCO-EWR
1618 EWR-TPA
1492 TPA-IAH
12/9
1160 IAH-MCO
1261 MCO IAH
62 IAH-EWR-MAD
It looks to me that aircraft #130 is now in MCO, arriving at 0944 12/08 and has not departed. If this is the second aircraft in the reconfiguration, we'll see how long it takes until flown out of MCO.

I figured there was plenty of opportunity for schedules to shift...

There are 3 reconfiguration lines open at MCOMX... should be quite the show to get them all done so quickly. I wonder when 3 will be in for service at the same time, first...

I could do that mod alone, all by myself in about eight hours, so it should be no difficulty getting the very capable CO MCO MX crew to pop these 757's out an lightning speed.
Okay, I exaggerated a little bit... but only a little bit.

MCOMX did Acft #141. Acft #134 is in now at MCOMX for Economy+ refit. Acft #530 is awaiting a LiveTV STC for the new Boeing Sky Interior. Acft #215, 216 are in for C checks. We have been seeing some of the pre-United p.s. 757s coming through. Those interiors are interesting.

I'll be flying down to MCO with the Wife to spend Christmas with the Mouse, hoping to see a very active MCOMX ramp.

Does PMUA 757 will be reconfigured in International standard?
Or they are too old to be used in TATL operations?

Only 14 of PMUA's 757 are ETOPS, and those are needed to operate to Hawaii from the West Coast. So no PMUA 757s to International configuration.

Acft # 130 is leaving shortly with Economy+, Acft # 132 just came in for Economy+ refit.

Acft #130 looks roomy.

It's actually 16, with 7 of these also having winglets, unless those few that have been returned were also ETOPS.

I flew on one for thanksgiving travel- "Interesting" doesn't even begin to describe that airplane.
Door trim panels falling completely off on the L2, window reveals falling off of the sidewalls, bulkhead coverings hanging down, seats torn up..... made me SO GLAD to be flying the new UA.... grrrrr.
I may stick to PMCO routes/aircraft for a while.

I meant how few seats were on the airplane. Seeing that cabin is interesting. As far as the interior condition, give it time, it will get better.

The North Hangar is overflowing with airplanes, I do believe 132 and 134 are in this picture.

Question, how do the PS 757s get to MCO for MX. Are they ferried down from JFK or do they fly in on a revenue flight from LAX or SFO?

I actually find the leather seat covers quite comfortable. The UA carpet has a nice design too. What is the CO bulk head design? Some of the UA aircraft, mostly the Airbuses and the recently refurbished wide bodies, have the really nice textured metal panels with lower blue carpeting. I think this bulk head design would look great on the CO aircraft!

^That photo!!! Oh, h*%& no! First I do not like that hole in the bulk head. I like the separation between coach and First. Those leather seat covers while can be nice, they stretch and tend to look bad and worn easily. Because of this the seats then to look a lot older than they are. The fabric covers CO uses keeps its shape and doesn't show wear as much. I like CO interior. I like lighter blue seats verse dark blue as it gives the cabin a more open feeling. If they did leather, I always found Continental ExpressJet colors and leather to look better than most airline leather seats that I have see. So if they used this seat color I can live with. The only thing I think they should change on CO interior is a lot of aircraft, the passenger control panel above the seat where ac vents are located is dark blue. I think they look better white. I not a fan of the way the First Class seats looks. I like to see some change.

You're going to have to get over that.

The inside of, at the very least, the sCO 737s are so dark and dreary I feel like committing suicide right after. The darker sidewalls and chairs, and lower and imho poor lighting environment on a 737 anyway, make it feel more cramped than it is.

I don't know very many people that like the sCO narrowbody coloring and fittings better than the interior of the sUA Airbuses and the one refurbed 757. Sorry

I also vote for the UA seats ^_^ I've had my share of flights on PMCO 737-8/9 757-2/3 and the Y seats were not very comfortable at all. Although that has more to do with seat vendor than fabric vs leather.

Well that's changing. Koito is out, BAE is taking over replacement covers and cushions. Some of the new covers have extra cushioning in them.

Those are required to be there by the Feds...the F/As have to have a certain percentage of the flights total passengers in view during take off and landing. During cruise those "holes" have covers that pop into place.

I don't see such a dramatic difference that would induce one to commit hari-kari after flying on one vs. the other! Both are complementary enough that there isn't a huge need to standardize the cabins just yet.

Acft #0134 went out this morning, Acft #0135 is now going through Economy+ at MCO. Acft #0132 should go out tomorrow morning. These Economy+ repitches are being done in 24 Hr. holds. One three seat assembly is being taken out from each side.

Thanks for the update and I now see that #134 seat maps are correct on today's flights (no row 14)
Do you if there's a reason the converted aircraft are newer units? Besides the one that looks like it was converted in LAX (17104), all the ones done at MCO are the newest 12 units of the 41 aircraft.

PMCO 752 conversion to Economy Plus
Add 752 #0106 (LAX) and #0136 (MCO) to the list. It seems like the lower numbered units are being done in LAX and the higher ones in MCO.
Looks like #0138 will exit MCO tomorrow and next out of LAX could be #0110 or #0126

B752 (8/41) [16/159 becomes 16/45/108]
LAX 0104-0106 [3],
MCO 0130, 0132-0136 [5], 0141

Total 752 (10/41) =24.4%

Does anyone know why aircraft N14102 (#0102) is sitting in SFO since Nov 6 per FlightAware?

Are you guys moving PSU's around as well?

Yes. The PSU's need to be reconfigured, with one removed per side.

Or they are too old to be used in TATL operations?

Has nothing to do with age. Most of UA's were ordered with lower weights and lower thrust engines.

Quoting AA737-823 (Reply 15):
If they're sending the PMUA birds to you in MCO, then I am confident that it WILL get better!
I can't imagine what the culture at SFOMX has been like for the past few years....

What? There is nothing about the PMCO interiors that are better than PMUA. Absolutely nothing. Especially the terribly inferior seats.

Quoting gigneil (Reply 23):
Why? The seat covers and etc from United's newer refits are MUCH more attractive than Continental's in EVERY way.

I even prefer the older ones with the colored stripes.

It looks like ac #0137 is scheduled out of MCO today on flight 76 at 1725 and the Mobile seat map shows no row 14, meaning it will have been converted.

PMCO 752 conversion to Economy Plus (without #0137)

B752 (12/41) [16/159 becomes 16/45/108]
LAX 0104-0106 [3], 0113
MCO 0130, 0132-0136 [5], 0138, 0141

Total 752 (12/41) =29.3%

You are right...if the aircraft interior is in top shape. Some are pretty ratty though - time for a refurb. The best 75 out there in the UA/CO fleet is the 1 bird fitted with wifi...flown on her twice.

I've been told by a very reliable source that there are corrosion issues with some of the oldest PMUA 757s and 747-400s that will likely result in an accelerated retirement schedule for affected ships.

Wow... that's a first. You like the yellow "sponge-painted" sidewalls, old galleys, flowered wallpaper in the lavs, CRT screens, and vintage PSU's?

Add AC #0112 exiting LAX today 12/20 on flight 1703.

AC #0137 exited MCO 12/19 after two days in MCO, but the seat maps for the three flights after it left MCO show it was not converted. CALTECH, can you confirm?

AC possibly in MOD or arriving tonight:
MCO #0131 (12/19), 0139 & 0123 (12/20)
LAX #0109 (12/19), 0125 & 0128 (12./20)

PMCO 752 conversion to Economy Plus (without #0137)

B752 (12/41) [16/159 becomes 16/45/108]
LAX 0104-0106 [3], 0112-0113 [2]
MCO 0130, 0132-0136 [5], 0138, 0141

Total 752 (13/41) =31.7%

Well now you are just being picky. The sponge painted sidewalls and wallpaper in the bathroom is an easy change out, PSU's aren't noticed by the masses (including me,) and CRT screens are just the norm -- especially considering DL and AA still have CRTs on many of their 757s. CO's 757s were configured for international use because they had an extreme lack of widebodies and needed to do it. Before the conversions many had those old slim checkered seats that were terribly uncomfortable and faded small LCD screens. UA's 757s are used for domestic routings, primarily on shorter routes.

One thing is for certain: UA's 757's have much more comfortable seats that have held up well over the years. I've never encounterd a broken headrest like I have on CO, AA, and DL.

Sure hope these ecy+ pmco 757's are lighter....too many of them not making it from Europe to the States recently...fuel stops from Canada to Boston going on......with no big east coast weather impacting destination stations. Lots of complaints going on in the freq traveler forums......
