Moscow To Washington In 1942?

Molotov flew to Washington DC in 1942-- ten hours Moscow to London, then via Iceland and Labrador. What aircraft would they have used?

According to wikipedia and several other sources he flew in a Petlyakov Pe-8, a russian WWII strategic bomber.
