I don't have the old routes maps at my disposal, however NK
completely changed their focus a few years ago.
Going back 10 years or more, NK
was growing a decent-sized operation at DTW
. However when they moved their HQ
and then focused their operation on serving sun and VFR markets out of FLL
, they pulled down much of their DTW
There were plans/rumors that NK
was going to go from about 30 flights/day at its peak at DTW
to upwards of 60+ flights. In fact, NK
was planning to take 8 gates in the North Terminal when initial plans were being developed earlier in the decade.
also got hit very hard in the recession and during the auto industry collapse. They overly rely upon leisure and discresonary travel and from an economic class that was hit very hard in recent years. That has recovered somewhat but NK
is no longer the far and away leader of the LCC pack in DTW
I do not see them growing much in DTW
. A few flights here or there, but it is not a matter of the new terminal. They ran a much bigger operation out of the old LC
