Aircraft That Look Like Insects

Wed Dec 14, 2011 2:42 pm

Over the years I've often thought that some aircraft strangely enough have insect-like qualities! I've see them hanging on final approach with spindly undercarriages dangling in the wind and thought of the similarity. Take a look at the picture, do you see what I'm getting at? Don't you think this TU95 looks like a dragonfly?

(thanks to Alex Beltyukov - RuSpotters Team for the pic)

Can you come up with any photographs of aircraft that have similar qualities? Please help before the men in white coats come to take me away!

It's funny that you compare aircraft to insects. My dad is a retired entomologist, and one time when we were traveling together I was showing him how to identify different airplanes. He noted that identifying airplanes is basically the same as identifying insects -- both require an eye for small details in order to differentiate between different models/species.
