New Uniforms For Finnair

Wed Dec 14, 2011 6:18 pm

Finnair cabin crew start wearing their new uniform tomorrow (15th December). They were designed by a Finnish designer Ritva-Liisa Pohjalainen. The uniforms are made out of the same wool blend used in Air France uniforms that stretches and doesn't collect dirt. The color scheme goes from night blue to snowy white. Pilots and ground staff get their new uniforms later. The white stripe on the dresses indicates a purser.

I think that they are rather distinctive and although there are many options, they are uniform. Also a positive improvement that they seem to be wearing flags in their name tags to indicate language skills. I wonder what the uniform look like in real life...

Looks nice, but what's up with the sleeve lengths on the ladies' dresses?

I think it is called a "three-quarter length" sleeve. My mom has lots of clothes with that sleeve length.

I think they look sharp although it's going to be hard to keep the white bits pristine.

Simple but classy. I like 'em!
I like almost everything about AY actually. Everything except their new, hideous livery. But I can live with that if the service always is as good as it was when I tried them HEL-JFK a couple of months back.

Looks great and really matches their livery.

That one's the only version I don't like, and for that reason. The others look very nice.

Very distinctive! I don't know how it will look on unattractive people though... (that said its Finland...almost everyone is good looking there!!!).

The live pics look much better! The scarf is very nice!

Seems like hats are making a bit of a come back in airline uniforms these days! Are the AY ones compulsory? I hope we see more of this, I think the AY hats are up their with QR, EY and BA ones! (is it true BA mixed fleet crew have to wear their and they are not an option?)

Good to see a bit more design and creativity in Airline uniforms these days, nice change from the 90s and early 00s. Naturally as these are Finish uniforms they have style, fit and are practically designed!

What other uniform reveals are we awaiting this year? UA, MH, QR groundstaff?

I've understood not compulsory, typically they don't have strict rules mixing different pieces.

A friend of mine put her uniform on a few weeks ago (she had just received it) after i begged and begged to see it on her   She put the one piece dress (kotelomekko in Finnish) illustrated on the last picture on the right. She has a great body, so at least on her it looked amazing. She was happy with the material as well, she said that though the dress looks well fit, it is not difficult to move in it, which is important when one has to work. Also, there is a lot of freedom on how one can combine the different pieces together. Hat is optional, and at least my friend said she will not be wearing it, as on her it looks ridiculous, in her opinion. But it's a nice extra.

I don't like the male uniform though. Very boring, very traditional. Too big contrast to the new fresh look of the female uniforms, in my opinion!

Here's a video of the launching event: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j_QOmS_vuyQ. The uniforms apparently aren't as dark as in some of the pictures. The hat reminds me of the previous Air New Zealand uniform some how.

I have to agree with you that they haven't changed much at all. But their new coats visible in the video look quite stylish

Yep, hats are compulsory for mixed fleet crew.

Quite like the new look for Finnair, nice and different from the usual suits.

Yes looks a bit like buss driver's uniform... But I think the male f/a uniforms always look more or less the same, some uniforms just fit better than others.

Finnair's flight attendants look generally good I think, tall and well groomed.

they don't necessarily cost any extra either. You can have things tailor made in Asia very
cheaply these days. Amazingly so. Just need to employ a few people with some vision
who stop looking at everything like a suburban trainline.

So does that mean the two work groups will continue to wear their existing uniforms until then?
