"CARGOITALIA INFORM THAT OPERATIONS ARE SUSPENDED FROM YESTERDAY DECEMBER 21, 2011
DUE TO THE COMPANY WINDING-UP"

doesn´t sound that temporarily to me...

One MD-11F has been in Singapore for maintenance for several months ... it does not look like it is going anywhere now. I wonder if the MRO vendor (SASCO) is being paid for the work already done. Or will the aircraft instead be impounded to pay for work done.

I believe the suspension of operations is permanent. The 2 MD-11s in FRA are being held by LH Technik until lessors can get the paperwork (de-registration, maintenance records, etc.) to come claim them.

The sudden and sharp drop in cargo, particularly in Asia, will likely claim other small operators in the coming months.

Wow, that was pretty quick.

I know LH Cargo has chartered them from time to time for soem of the US routes.
Mind you these aircraft are more payload restricted then other MD-11F's around so I wonder if it really was a good idea to kee flying htese aircraft.
Zanair flight, please hold on finals as we have to clear rhino's off the runway. Next flight KUL-FRA-AMS Flown in A319,A

This would be their second shutdown.

They restarted in mid 2009 after Alis Aerolinee Italiane purchased their AOC and merged them into Alitalia's cargo division which CAI did not acquire.

Seems to me these guys simply did not have a coherent business plan.

From scheduled service to the Americas and Asia then to adhoc charters, then back to scheduled service, and now most recently ACMI flying for Lufthansa and Africa West.

At one point they were even to acquire A330Fs. Alis signed for 5+3 options a few years back.

In aviation temporarily means permanently in most cases.
