INSTRUCTIONS

WHAT IS THIS REPORT?
This compares what is for sale THIS WEEK for the stated period versus what was for sale LAST WEEK...It does NOT compare to last year or now (UNLESS OTHERWISE STATED).

HOW DO I READ IT?
XXX-YYY DEC 4>5 JAN 4>5 ; means that the listed airline changed the frequency between the two airports to add from 4 to 5 roundtrips in December and January. No other months were changed. I only list one direction, although it is possible the listed change is only one way. It is too difficult to average the two directions. I assume the change is roundtrip and that is most often the case.

HOW ARE THE DAILY DEPARTURES CALCULATED?
This report uses total operations for the month listed, divided over the days in the month.

WHAT ARE THE FRACTIONAL FLIGHTS?
Non-daily operations create fractional weekly service. In most cases flights are rounded, but in the case of international service or markets with low frequency, fractions are shown. If a flight operated 5 days out of 7, it would show 0.8 flights.

WHY ARE THERE WEIRD FREQUENCIES AT Macedonian Airlines (Greece)">IN FAR AWAY MONTHS FOR LCCs?
Most airlines publish schedules 11 months in advance. This report covers the next 9 months. That avoids seeing schedules as they are loaded. Several LCCs load their schedules less than 9 months into the future. Their schedules may also end mid-month. If B6 loads their schedule until Jan15, all flights in Janaury will show half frequency because of the way the report is created.

WHY IS A WHOLE AIRLINE'S SCHEDULE SHOWN AS CHANGING FOR A FUTURE MONTH?
Similarly to the previous question, some airlines load their schedule from nothing inside the 9 month window of this report. When their schedule is extended it will show as new service because there was no previous schedule to compare to. In some instances I will show a more valid comparison against another period.

THOSE FLIGHTS AREN'T DELTA, THEY ARE PINNACLE
This report only shows the marketing code. It is too complicated to show all the operators.

THE FREQUENCIES MAY HAVE CHANGED AS YOU SHOW, BUT THE SEATS DIDNT CHANGE BECAUSE OF EQUIPMENT SWAPS
That is a natural weakness of a frequency based report, but it provides something to discuss below.

THE FREQUENCY DOESN'T SHOW A CHANGE, E.G. 4>4
This happens as a result of rounding. There is a change in service that is large enough to be listed, but through rounding it does not appear.

Yeah - the 2nd 332 flight is being discontinued. I believe this is the pressure from Star Alliance in Houston and EK and QR.

Sure sounds like an old fashioned pissing match. Guess the financial consequences using this market as the war field, will be rather small than other markets. I had heard B6 did well on the seasonal LGB-ANC flight, And for AS to re-enter a market they recently swore they would not enter again, it must have pissed someone off enough. You seem like minded with me on this one, again thanks for the always fun and interesting thread each week.

That's very possible...or it could mean that a UA A/C is going to fly it for those months, but it was not loaded in sync. It is SO HARD to analyze anything with the two separate codes. What is the new date of the single code operation?

Great, just what I needed. More flights I have to work to LGA. I thought maybe with the slot swap going through I'd get a respite from the 22x daily US departures PHL-LGA, most of which get heavy delays. Hopefully US cuts more than 4 flights on the route giving us in the air traffic world a break from the every 15 minute Dash 8 to LGA (which frequently winds up being 3 all at the same time which are all given lengthy delays by New York Tracon).
I think Big Foot is blurry, Its not the photographers fault. Theres a large out of focus monster roaming the countryside

I believe the target is mid-March for merged res systems - presumably merged schedules as well.

Looks like it, but the April stuff is pretty typical in that a lot of hubs are seeing post-Easter reductions. The Summer is more indicative and they did a few net cuts there too.

Too bad. I'd love to backpack all through Mexico away from the beaten tourist path. Unfortunately, that's not a good idea now.

The SEA-MZT seasonal non-stop was never more than 1-2/week AFAIK. I remember when AS discontinued SFO-MZT (along with SFO-ZIH and CUN).

So far, PVR seems less affected, although I believe there was one recent tragic incident there. Baja seems to be minimally affected, so I assume SJD, LAP, and LTO are still holding up strong.

Totally agreed. My cruise ship stopped at MZT 2 year back, and it looks totally empty and unattactive compared to Puerto Vallarta.

Truth is, B6 is NOT a small airline anymore.

And if they want to move beyond shuttling people from NYC and BOS to Florida, they are going to have to start and win a few route fights.

They have done very well in the Carribbean. And while there maybe some high frequency short hauls out of BOS that bleed, they need to be able to start and compete in high freq business markets.

I expect we will see BOS-LGA shortly.

As for ANC, that was a HIUGE leap for them and they are going to stick it out. So AS better learn to coexist with B6s once a day redeye.

Other notes: Impressed with B6 stepping up the Carribbean some more as AA cuts JFK-SXM

Glad to see BOS-JFK up to 7 again. Hub to hub. 6 are always packed.

Delta feed cuts at JFK are sad. So much for the well rounded hub approach from a few years ago.
Back to domestic at LGA and international at JFK that AA, DL, and TW lived on for so many years.

I'm not gonna give out numbers but ANC I will tell you its not going anywhere. Pax loads are one thing but cargo is another and that flight is a HUGE cargo flight. So with what the pax numbers are plus cargo weight, its making sense.

Yes and no. ANC was a decent route for us last year. PAX loads were a little below expectations but cargo fairly well. Rumor was that B6 erred on the cautious side with the cargo contracts and ended up not doing as well as as we could have. I would expect that to be different this year as we know what to expect.

I will tell you one thing, offloading 17000lbs of boxed salmon was not fun, but if it makes us money, then bring it on.

Is anyone surprised? I though they stood a chance when they started a few routes out of SFB to places where G$ didn't fly to but, VPS and FPO service never seemed like a good idea.

That's like saying that a flight must be making money because it's full. There is yield to consider for cargo as well. Cargo is only 12% of revenue on widebody passenger planes flying TransPac. Given that A320s can't take pallets it's not possible it adds up to enough. The route is probably losing 25-30% on the passenger side, so cargo can't possibly add more than another 8-10% (and it's likely more like 3-5%)...so the flight is still horrendous even if they are putting sushi in the overhead bins.

I thought so too, but I guess it is awful and they took the opportunity to reshuffle it out of the deck.

Only that they are dropping routes that are little more than charters. They had planes repossessed recently. I wonder if that somehow caused the contract with FPO to be abrogated?

That's an example of a route F9 should enter, but won't because CVG doesn't do subsidies. DAY is going to be awful with WN/FL adding it.

BOS-DCA appears to continue...

I could still see this downsized in the future still. I guess frequency is important on this route but once the busy summer holiday season arrives it might make sense to use a few slots to the hubs for connections? I guess we will find out. Maybe Delta is just deciding what to do. I am sure we will see tons of DCA/LGA adjustments in the future as the airlines see what routes are working for them and what frequencies they need

I don't believe DCA-BOS is really staying. It's possible to book seats on a random date in April, but the lowest fare bucket is M for about $550 each way -- with a DTW connection being available for $46 each way. Perhaps they're keeping the flights in the system until US tells them the exact dates when they want slots turned over.

Doesn't look like any destinations are being cut. I have noticed in the past that DEN-LIH/KOA service seems to continue to see a shorter season/less frequency and appears to now only be Saturday service in the winter

All Planes.

United could certainly reconfigure the Q400 to seat 56, 1 row of F Class and the remainder in Coach, which knowing the config of it being 2 by 2, would reduce the seat count to 53, but I don't know how the CASM would work out.

Legend did it for their DC9's.

Agreed, I like southern South America. I think we see eye-to-eye on most things on A.net. Just quit promoting that DL is going to buy out "my" AS, will you.

They're handicapped in NYC because they don't have slots at LGA for business short haul.

What they do have are plenty of JFK slots for 1. Leisure 2. International 3. Beyond Perimeter (where they can compete with the big boys for business and leisure traffic). Yes I know it is all Y, but you still capture the business traffic that flies Y . . . and B6 has a very good Y product.

So if they want to be a major player in NYC, they need at least 4 a day on this route, I wouldn't be surprised to see 5 a day in the summer.

Now if they would only make a better attempt at SFO frequency
