#1000 about to be built, in service since 1995 with not one fatality and only one hull loss.

Remarkable aeroplane, congrats to Boeing!

Yes same here, I wonder if they will also do something similar on the tail like they did to the 6000th 737 which flies for DY?

Yes!

Hopefully whatever is done will be better than this effort by the Emirates group.....

Yes, this 777-200ER was written off after a cockpit fire at CAI last July.

Well done Boeing, thats quite a milestone. The way the 777 is going at the moment and into the foreseeable future, the next 1000 will probably take less time!

Congrats to Boeing for a remarkable achievement and a wonderful aircraft. It's hard to believe they've built 1000 of them already.

And even more remarkable is its safety record. (Knock on wood) it has not had a single fatality, and only 2 hull losses. That's a tribute to solid design and engineering.

Although I'd rather be lucky than good any day of the week!

As I read that it will be the 102nd 777 for EK, I figured out that it must be A6-EGP cn 35599. Can anyone confirm that?
The first flight should already be in early february.

That should be about right. EK currently has 97 in the fleet with A6-EGK (ln 981) the last one delivered. Number 98 is coming up as A6-EGL (ln 985), so A6-EGP should be number 102 for EK unless an freighter version comes in between.

Another great achievement by Boeing  . IMO, I think Emirates is the best choice to receive this particular aircraft, they have the most on order and have operated every version of the 777 if I remember correctly.

Remarkable for a plane some big people refused to believe would sell against the A340 or 747.

I recall my first flight on United soon after they got the first one. I vividly remember taking it from EWR to LHR and when I got to the T1 satellite and looked at it parked at the gate- her nose FILLED the window! And then walked over to see the engine and I could not believe my eyes! Does anyone else recall seeing that engine for the first time? I was speechless and awed by it's size.

Boeing deserves a huge round of applause and Emirates truly deserves this special bird!

Flew my first 777 in August this year. Yes, I saw the ramp rats walking around and beside the engines and was awed by their size. Know the specs of a plane on paper and actually seeing it are two different things!

Congratulations to Boeing and the 777 family for this amazing milestone. I can't wait to see this rolled out. I wonder if there will be a ceremony, like on the delivery of the 1000th 767 to ANA not too long ago.

When I joined Boeing we were given a tour of the PAE factory and I remember walking by a Trent 800 in her crate and marveling at just how....immense...it was. And walking under the 77E the engines were destined for was astounding.

I flew on my first 777 between KUL and ADL with MH. Was amazed at how much power there was when we took off and the sound of the engine was amazing!!!!! Only been on 2 777 9M-MRG and 9M-MRA. Wasn't 9M-MRA the 777 that did the longest flight?

I'm dying to stand in an engine with my picture taken! (off of course)

I remember a video of dozens of dead turkeys being tossed together into the giant maul of the engine as part of it's testing. They went in whole and came out the back as a fast puff of smoke!

Do we think she will reach 2000? How many 777's are on the order books?

Amazing that a carrier which only operated it's first ever flight less than 10 years before the 777 entered service is now not only the biggest 777 operator, but will operate over 10% of the worldwide 777 fleet. I know EK raise lots of strong feelings one way or another ( I came away from my first experience with them distinctly underwhelmed) but regardless of whether you love them or hate them (or just think that they are overrated) there is no denying that what they have achieved in a little over 26 years is amazing.

My first 777 was a Continental example between EWR and LHR. I also couldn't get over the size of the GE90. Must have stood at the window for a good 15 minutes just looking at the engine. I also couldn't get over how quiet they seemed in flight compared to all the other planes i've flown on.

What I find truly remarkable is the success of the 777LR family. When one considers the doubt and mini-uproar the single engine decision caused, the fact Boeing/GE have now sold 781* copies of the 777LR's vs. 576* -200/-200ER/-300's is truly significant, IMO.

* - will be more tilted to LR's as AA converts remainder.

Very good for Boeing with the 7th thousand 737 ever. It seems most Type of Boeing Aircraft get over 1 thousand Airframes like the 747/757/767/737/727/707 and probably the 787.

Go Boeing!

My first 77W was Singapore Airlines that flew from FRA to SIN. I was so excited to fly on a B77W cos it has a brand new seats and inflight meals. That was so amazing! It was full and the seats are really comfy so that I could sleep peacefully. During safety demo on PTV, I couldn't believe that flight attendant on TV looked fat (due to wide tv screen). haha

Apart from the BA and MS 777-200ERs written off following accidents, I believe the following two early 777-200s (non-ER) have been scrapped, or were due to be.

I was fortunate enough to be able to attend an employee and customer open house at UA/SEA shortly after they took delivery of the first airplane and before it went into service. I have a photo I had my friend take of me leaning against one of those massive engines. One of my most prized aviation photos. Love the 777, long may she grace our skies!

Mine first flight on 777 was from Singapore to Melbourne - I just got there on BA 747 and was extremely exhausted after more than two days of travel. What was even worse was BA's service - I never in my life had worse flight experience than that!
But the SQ 777 was completely different - it was one of the best flights and the take off was simply amazing - I was pushed into my seat during take off and really enjoyed it! Since then I always try to book 777 flights - the pure power of this thing never stops to amaze me! And the engine noise - I LOVE IT

I’ve always had a soft spot for the 777, and would go so far as saying for me at least; it’s the best model Boeing has ever produced. When you take into account its technical capabilities, safety record and the challenges Boeing faced bringing it to the market it really does represent the company at its absolute best.

http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=3551731641323350192# - Part 1 of a great documentary called “21 Century Jet – Making the Boeing 777”. If you haven’t watched this then I can’t recommend it enough. It’s a fantastic insight into the inner workings of Boeing in the 1990’s. You should be able to find the other four parts in the related video list .

I’m with Doc on this; Without an NG version I think Boeing will struggle to get new customers, or large orders once the A35J’s enters later stages of development.

Boeing feels confident enough in the sales of the family to push production to 100 units a year, even with a weak 2010 and 2008 order book (and an abysmal 2009). That decision requires Boeing to secure at least 100 units a year and they've done twice that in 2011.

With Boeing needing another 600+ net orders to cross the 2000 unit mark, and figuring the line secures at least 100 net orders a year on average, they can have it with the current line-up just as the A350-1000 is (projected) to enter service. And even if the A350-1000 clubs the 777-300ER like a harp seal, there will still be orders based on availability (being the second best product in your category still has some value to customers), so I don't think Boeing must have a 777X to meet 2000 orders.

2500 orders, on the other hand...

Amazing achievement by Boeing and to reach it so quickly compared to the 747 and 767 programs!

Also keep in mind that the 777 was on time with first delivery as promised compared to the delays of other recent programs from both Airbus and Boeing.
