Who Has Taken MIA-Mexico Capacity From Mexicana?

Sat Dec 24, 2011 1:22 pm

I'm looking more from the Mexican carriers standpoint. What Mexican carriers have stepped up capacity on MIA-Mexico routes? Does anyone serve FLL-Mexixo?

If I am not mistaken, MX was a late entrant to the MEX-MIA market. Before MX got cozy with AA, it did not fly to MIA... at least from MEX. For a number of years this route was served by AA and AM only, and now it is back to status quo. AM is now flying 29x weekly services to MIA from MEX btw.

AM has tried to serve MTY-MIA, but unsuccessfully; at the moment, AM is no longer flying to MIA from MTY. AM flies 4x weekly MID-MIA and 14x weekly CUN-MIA. I think that before its demise MX used to have a lot of success on the CUN-MIA route, because of the connections to HAV.

NK is now flying FLL-TLC. I would assume they will do well on this route. AM also tried MEX-FLL some time ago but it did not last long.

Okay speaking of mexicana what is going on there planes just worked a flight to MEX the other day. Saw an airbus parked with the engines covered but there was one of the bigger planes there and it looked liked they were using it.

A 763ER was ferried to the lessor or something. There is more info on that on the Mexican Aviation Thread.

AM increased capacity to MIA. Last October, AM moved 35,405 passegers, a 93% increment compared to the last year same month.

VB launched service to MIA last month. VB MTY-MIA service operates twice a week, on Mondays and Fridays

Additionally, Interjet will start MIA in 2012 first quarter:

This route will become the 4th international gateway for 4O. Mexico-MIA is an important market comprised by leisure and business traffic.

Happy holidays!

4 is correct, all on 738s through Feb. 7, 2012 when AA drops down to 2xdaily with 738s.

It's scheduled to return to 4x daily April 5th, 2012 with 3x738 and 1x757 but I'm not familiar enough with the route to say if that's going to play out or it's just that AA hasn't updated it's schedule after this date.

Really? I do not see that in Sabre.

I do not imagine AA would do this to MEX. It seems to be profitable.

Last year they dropped MIA-LIM #3 in order to add MIA-MEX #4

It does indeed temporarily reduce to 2x daily starting on February 9, 2012.

I don't think that's why AA dropped their third daily flight to LIM...

MIA-MEX will not be going down to 2 flights as stated before. It stays as 4 daily 737 trips. MIA-CUN does drop to 4 daily flights (from 5) between 09Feb and 03Apr when it is scheduled to go back to 5 flights. As of 11Jan Aeromexico drops their MIA-CUN route.

You are correct. I should have known better than to trust AA.com on a Saturday night when they usually make adjustments to their schedules

Leaving American all alone to do as it pleases on the route !
Last year this time round, with Mexicana long gone, fares to Miami from Cancún with American Airlines were up to 700 dlls return and more as they were the sole players in the field.
Aeroméxico's rationale for abandoning the route after barely 6 months is beyond my comprehension.

AM's November 2011 traffic in MIA was up 89% compared to November 2010.

The airline carried 40,280 passengers and load factor was almost 90%. With such figures, AM became the fastest growing Latin American carrier in that airport.

Those results and the arrival of new aircrafts may encourage AM to resume MTY-MIA.

Good for AM! Nice. But it makes the dropping of MIA-CUN even more difficult to comprehend.

Not to hijack this thread, but what is going on with the capacity from ORD, they had a lot of flights from there. Has AM really stepped it up. I do not think AA nor UA has added much, especially to the secondary Mexico markets MX served.
