Cathay Pacific Cargo 748F Code?

Mon Jan 02, 2012 2:03 am

Simple question... Do Cathay Pacific Cargo 748Fs list as 78F in timetables, Online flight trackers, flight board app etc etc? Or do they use a different code?

Thanks! I've been looking to see when it arrives at DFW again, showed up last week at least once, if not twice. Latest flights keep showing 74F, so I wasn't sure if it was 78F or something else. It may not even be loaded in the trackers I use yet either!

The ICAO aircraft type designator (code) is "B748" (no differention between Freighter and Pax) so they will show up on FlightAware etc. under that code. A quick check is showing FlightAware tracking BAW3457 ATL-STN as a B748 at the current time.

B748 is all I've seen on ETMS and on flight progress strips.

74N is Cathay's own code that we use, just like our 777-300ERs are 77A, 77D or 77G depending on configuration as opposed to the official code of 77W. We have our own designations that appear in our schedules. The official code filed in flight plans is the ICAO code but in our timetables (Which was what the original question was), it is 74N.

Looks like 74N is also used by Cargolux and BA. I suspect it maybe the official IATA code.

The ICAO B748 is applicable to both -8F and -8I, same for many other types of freighters. Air traffic control does not normally need to know whether it's a passenger aircraft or a freighter on the flight progress strip.
