Destinations No Longer Flown From SJC

Wed Jan 04, 2012 3:10 am

Hi guys,

I thought it would be fun to test mine and other's memory of destinations no longer flown by anyone from SJC. This doesn't count like JFK for example, in which AA dropped it but B6 currently flies it. Nor did I include NRT since NH will start that when they ever get more 787s.

There are a few new destinations that I'd never thought I'd see flown non-stop, namely LIH and KOA; and a few more resumers like SJD, HNL (WA; UA short time; AA; now HA and soon AS), OGG (AA; then AS and now HA also) and PSP (which was also done by Air California, not just AS and QX in the past).

Comments added.

YVR - (Air Cal, AA with MD-80s and Canadian's commuter subsidiary with F28s for a short time)
YYC - (AC for a short time)
YOW - (<acronym title=" air="" canada="">AC for a short time)
YYZ, Canada - >YYZ</acronym> - (<acronym title=" air="" canada="">AC)
PVR - (seasonal on AS)
MLM - (MX)
TPE - (AA for about six months in 2001)
CDG - (same starting and ending date as TPE)
GEG - (QX)
TVL - (Air Cal and the short-lived Tahoe Air)
SFO - (various tag-ons, Air Cal, UA, TW, etc)
OAK - (ditto)
FAT - (? I think Air California did this at one time)
MRY - (ditto)
SBA - (UA Express)
TUS - (AS mainline for a short time, then QX CR7s)
COS - (QQ for a short time)
DTW - (NW at times in the past)
CVG - (DL did this for a short time)
STL - (TW; AA canned it quickly)
PIT - (? I thought US did this for a short-time but not certain)
RDU - (Midway for a short time; announced by AA but never started)
MIA - (AA for a short time; same starting date as AA's OGG flight)
EWR - (CO)
IAD - (UA; and I thought AA did it at one time, but not certain)

Anything else that I missed?

Yes, thanks.

And PSA also did SJC-LGB with 727-100s. IIRC it went OAK-SJC-LGB.

Horizon currently flies to SMF from SJC, so those don't count.

Before 2010, it was operating for nearly a decade, if not more, which is still more than 'a few.'

It is? First I've heard.... As far as I know SJC-BOI will continue via SMF in the morning.

If AA merges with US, would it be worth to dehub PHX and hub again SJC?

I know neither are going to happen, it is only a personal idea.

Right after I posted, I realized this said SJC, not SLC. Fail on my part. Maybe I shouldn't get on A.Net when I'm half asleep.

I stand corrected, looks like SJC-BOI goes nonstop starting in March! We're always the last to know!

AS used to fly SJC-LGB-SJC with an M80 in the late 80s/early 90s.

We also ran the A320's to SJC for a while (Up to 3x a day.). Didnt work out so well though. High airport fees and low yields led to B6 discontinuing that route as there was a real big push to increase activity in/out of SFO.

Sounds like RNO will be added to this list soon.

Hughes Airwest did SJC-RNO with DC-9s in the late-70s.

I can't recall AA ever flying the route, but it was definitely flown by Independence Air.

From what I read AA did fly SJCIAD. The route lasted for about for about a month, the same time AA FIRST flew to JFK. Both routes were canceled initially because of poor times. They both left around 1pm from SJC, return time was an 800am from IAD, 810am from JFK. I knew they flew 762 the first time to JFK, and I think it was a 757 to IAD. AA later brought back JFK with 757's and 738's before they ultimately canceled that route for a second time.

In the early days of America West I flew PHX-SJC-OAK route.
The SJC-SCK service was on Saabs when AA was developing a hub in San Jose.
