Delta Connection ( Skywest ) CRJ-700 In HKG?

Sat Jan 07, 2012 7:00 am

Anyone know why a Delta Connection ( Skywest ) CRJ-700 registered as C-GIBR was at HKG ? What plane is that ?

A few photos have popped up on other sites.

My guess is that if the CRJ-700 in question still has a Canadian registry (C-) then the aircraft has not yet been delivered to the customer (Skywest). This leads me to believe that Bombardier is displaying the aircraft to potential Chinese / Hong Kong customers. Of course, this is all speculation.

It was originally meant to become JA08RJ with Ibex, so maybe it had to fly to Asia for paperwork reasons (maybe to sell the aircraft?) and has now been delivered to Skywest and opf Delta Air Lines.

You can find the aircrafts information by typing in N631SK to Planespotters.net

If the aircraft that is over in HKG is N631SK, I can tell you that it is not a new delivery. I flew N631SK LAX-SFO on 12/2 and so it had been in pax service with Skywest for a little while. The ship was pretty new, I think less than 3 months old. I wonder what it's doing in HKG then...

I believe the thread starter is asking why C-GIBR (N631SK) was in HKG in *August 2011*

Does it have anything to do with ASA and their Mekong Airlines adventure?

Any landing you can walk away from is a good landing! It's a bonus if you can fly the plane again!!

Nope. Those aircraft come completely from the ASA fleet and Air Mekong is -900's, not -700's

I would almost certainly bet it was a Bombardier demo. They used one of XJ's CR9s for their display at the Dubai Air Show in 2007.

Sorry if I am missing something, but where did he say anything about August?

If memory serves me correctly, Bombardier leased the aircraft from SkyWest to showcase the capability of the aircraft to Garuda Indonesia back in August. Considering Garuda is evaluating the EMB-190 and CRJ1000, I am not sure why Bombardier did not dispatch the CRJ1000, but I am pretty sure that the aircraft stopped in Hong Kong on the demonstration flight in Jakarta.
