SQ Explores Possible New Service To ARN

Thu Jan 12, 2012 1:32 pm

This is from scandinavian aviation 2012 nr 1 on this forum. Sorry for hijacking the subject. But this deserves a thread of its own in my opinion. Singapore Airlines is commencing flights to Stockholm-Arlanda.

SQ Explores Possible New Service To ARN

Thu Jan 12, 2012 1:52 pm

Indeed great news for ARN. I'm happy that the Star Alliance cooperation finally gives us some interesting and much sought after new routes.

I guess we can asume that this is SQs reply to the ever expanding ME carriers (together with the increasd frequency from CPH)?

Cheers,

SQ Explores Possible New Service To ARN

Thu Jan 12, 2012 2:09 pm

"The partnership is expected to lead to growth in air services between Scandinavia and Singapore, and, depending on market conditions , pave the way for a new route between Stockholm and Singapore, served with Singapore Airlines aircraft."

The language in this press release is veeeery tentative. It certainly doesn't sound to me like a sure thing - more like something they might, possibly, perhaps consider sometime in the future.

Having said that with TG flying daily to each of ARN, OSL, CPH (10x) plus all the new flights on ME carriers (EK, QR) plus AY recently launching flights to SIN to supplement all their other far east flights, it's perhaps not a bad idea for SQ to look into it also.

Press release from SQ side.

http://www.singaporeair.com/jsp/cms/...UK/press_release_news/ne120112.jsp

It is almost identical to SAS. However, they do mention more clearly that all that has been signed is a letter of intent, so I wouldn't hold my breath quite yet.

SQ Explores Possible New Service To ARN

As it is a joint operation, and with many "ifs", the thread should maybe correctly be "Maybe New SQ/SK Service to ARN"

SQ Explores Possible New Service To ARN

You are right copenhagenboy. To many ifs. I got carried away and lost a bit of perception. Not many good news recently concerning ARN so when there is finally something....

I would love to edit this subject but I cannot find the edit button. Perhaps you could only make alterations within a certain time frame? If someone knows do not hesitate to instruct me.

Well never the less I think it is a clever move in the right direction, and I for sure hope it will sooner or later materialize.

Well, EK is also strongly rumoured for ARN 2012, so I would say there's actually a lot stirring in the pot currently.

I would expect SIN to increase CPH first before starting ARN flights.
If they cant make CPH daily then i dont see how ARN could work.
Nevertheless, i would love to see them at ARN.

I suppose SQ realised there is a market to Scandinavia and they had not been maximising the opportunities presented through a more comprehensive tie-up with SAS in the same alliance. I consider this a rather belated move.
It's huaiwei...not huawei. I have nothing to do with the PRC! :)

Maybe TG will go "into bed" with SK/SQ on the Scandinavian-SEA market:

Sorry only google translated:

The agreement between SAS and Singapore Airlines is ready for signature and will mean more connections between Scandinavia and Singapore - both from Copenhagen and Stockholm. But maybe Thai Airways is also included.

Stand By and takeoff.dk could the other day reveal the way is now paved for a new company between Singapore Airlines and SAS. The agreement was approved this week in the two companies' headquarters and lacks only the formal approval of competition authorities.

This is a joint venture in which the bottom line will be shared with even more details than today between SAS and Lufthansa. The connections to Copenhagen strengthened with daily departures, and probably the same from Stockholm. Who will fly the many new departures, are not finally agreed. Perhaps shared initially equally

Along the way there have been ongoing negotiations with Thai Airways, the interest is still so great that there has been meeting this week in Thailand and Singapore. All three companies are members of Star Alliance,

Whether there will be two or three the idea is to put a truly competitive project up to Finnair - and maybe Norwegian - and the three Middle East airlines, Qatar Airways, Gulf Air and Emirates, in Copenhagen.

It is not expected that cooperation really started prior to the winter schedule in October.

Co-operation of any sort between TG and SQ really would be news! I would think that TG would actually stand to be one of the bigger losers if SQ start ARN.

@kiwiandrew, you might be correct, but now the 3 companies are eating passengers from each other. I think that SK is behind this new development of this cooperation. TG OSL-BKK, ARN-BKK and CPH-BKK. SK CPH-BKK and SQ CPH-SIN. I think outside the highseason there are far to many seats from Scandinavia to BKK and SIN. The 3 companies are figthing against eachother and also with AY. Then we have the Middleeastern companies starting another competition as well as the old European carriers. The charter companies, to Thailand, at least in Denmark, have sold tickets deaply discountet this winter.

From the perspective of SAS, it would be nice to have all 3 companies into a kind of JV between Scandinavia and BKK and SIN.
SAS was a founder of Thai and had before, 10 years ago?, code share on each others flights between CPH and BKK, I have been on one of them myself.

But we just have to wait and see what is going to happen.
So much is happening in the industry, that enemies might will become friends at least in some markets.
