Hello All,

Just thought I would update the scheduled return of VH-OEJ to revenue service... The paint scheme is unknown but speculation is the aircraft has been painted in the standard Qantas scheme with updated Roo...

Wow! That was quick!

I'd have to agree...only a 21 day repaint, probably standard colors. Glad I saw her in the Wunala colors while she had them though.

Is OEJ positioning to Avalon to have the new interior done or is this just a re-paint?

I really hope they didn't, but I know the chances are that it is repainted in standard colors. Now the only QF birds to have special paint are 737's (right?).

I will never forget arriving at my gate at SYD to see her waiting there for my flight to LAX.

Never seen VH-OEJ in it's special livery, however have had the honour of flying VH-VXB from MEL back home to ADL. May have the chance to fly VH-VXB again if I am lucky on Sunday with two scheduled B738 flights on Sun and Thurs.

So Wunala Dreaming is history? Not very wise from the management.
How sad it is just one of many identical QF 744s now. The big red one was my favourite aeroplane:-(

Never seen the livery in person but it looks spectacular in pictures, so I hope they don't repaint it to the standard livery.. When was VH-OEJ painted in the livery? When it was first purchased from Boeing?

I was never a fan of the Wunala Dreaming livery. In fact, I'm not a fan of many of the special liveries worldwide - they just looked too messy, in my opinion. So if VH-OEJ returns from XMN with its new, standard corporate livery, I'd be rejoicing. The aircraft looks much cleaner that way, and shows off the 744's gorgeous lines way better than a messy Wunala Dreaming livery ever could. I would imagine that stripping Wunala Dreaming would result in some weight savings as well.

How would you all feel if it came back a sort of hybrid livery?

Perhaps the shiny white and updated Roo could be joined by Qantas' newest ambassador wearing a bikini?!

Now a 1970s scheme with the cheatlines and kangaroo wings would make me happy, but it's not going to happen....not until maybe 2020 and the Centenary year ...now there's an idea!

Shame I saw Wunala Dreaming twice last year. I went to Australia for the first time in 2011, in fact I did it twice and saw WD in Sydney both times 3 months apart, how lucky was that.

Yes, I agree! Nothing like watching the same boring corporate livery over and over again. White is obviously the new "spice of life!"

I know I will certainly miss Wunala Dreaming livery! She was always an eye catcher no matter where she flew too. Wunala was a legend and you could instantly recognize it, even if you just saw a tiny part of her! I guess it's a sign of the times! Another special livery for the history books!

Unless she actually does come out of the hanger still decked out in her glory? One can hope..right?

I agree, the livery was a classic. Unlikely though as the current CEO doesn't like to emphasise the Australianness of QF and the 70's livery proudly stated QANTAS - AUSTRALIA

Negative. VH-OJU is the one wearing the OneWorld livery and it is a standard 747-400 fitted with Rolls Royce engines. Prior to her being painted, VH-OEB used to be the one wearing the OneWorld scheme but she is also a standard 747-400 fitted with GE CF6 engines.

As opposed to the current A380 livery that has 'Spirit of Australia' written in big letters on the side??

I wasn't 100% sure and thanks for confirming... That also raises the question why do QF only have one aircraft in the OW scheme course VH-EBL had the OW scheme removed...

I understand that a foxy paint job is a tad heavier.
But the difference in fuel consumption must be minor; perhaps neglegible??

Has anyone actually confirmed the livery yet?

I agree. She is running DFW rotations where fuel consumption will be a very important consideration so it can't be too much of a hit.

Thanks for posting that schedule EK413. It seems that OEE and OEF are the most common of the ERs on the DFW run lately, with OEJ not a stranger either. Is there a reason (cabin configuration?) for this or just luck of the (scheduler's) draw?

The -ER's are all pretty much identical. There's a chance that these three birds are the better performing of the fleet, but other than that I'd say it's just how it works out with maintenance and the timing of the flights.

'Strictly' is the wrong word to use -- when the full fleet is in action there are quite a number of -ER's scheduled to HKG and NRT. In fact, until planes started cycling out for refits last October, QF30 MEL-HKG-LHR was scheduled as an -ER every Thursday, and HKG flights were scheduled -ER's 2-3 times a week.

And QF107 SYD-LAX has been an -ER only twice this year... The other 14 flights this month have been on older -OJ registered aircraft. Throughout last year the general trend is for around a third of all QF107 flights to be flown by the -OJ aircraft.

Yes, 'strictly' was the wrong term used... QF did purchase the ER's for the Pacific routes and yes they do operate the Kangaroo routes too but I am just stating what the aircraft's main mission and that was to operate Pacific routes enabling QF to compete with UA eliminating the lift of weight restrictions on the route but now times have changed and you have DL & VA...

So yes I will think twice before I utilize the word 'strictly'!

VH-OEJ was the last 747-400ER, not the first. It was built in 2003. VH-OJB, the original "Wunala Dreaming", is a 1989-built 747-400 which carried the beautiful red scheme from 1994 - 2003.

Actually, the interior cofigurations seem to be the deciding factor. I've personally never seen OEG here, but all others many times. I think Golf, having the new interior installed, has been mostly on the LAX route since return to the fleet. Now that DFW is 6x weekly it will be interesting to see if it makes an appearance. I would guess that Hotel is either in for a seat swap or has been doing the same as Golf; haven't seen her in a while.

Actually, the interior cofigurations seem to be the deciding factor. I've personally never seen OEG here, but all others many times. I think Golf, having the new interior installed, has been mostly on the LAX route since return to the fleet

In that situation, yes -- though she has been on SYD-EZE for the past week and hasn't been through LAX since the 8th of Jan... But between the remaining 5 frames, there is no reason (configuration-related) why QF would be specifically picking out 2 birds to run the route constantly for 2-3 weeks. The other 5 frames are identical inside.

Interior layout on the ER fleet isnt the deciding factor until recent with 2 reconfigured & 3rd aircraft being refitted in AVV as we speak...

RUMOUR - Reliable QF source claims more special art will appear on QF planes sometime in 2012, however no specifics given at this time. So start the suggesting
Where's the passion gone out of the airline industry? The smell of jetfuel and the romance of taking a flight....

I hope "art" really means art (like Wunala Dreaming) and not just tacky shortlived adverts or sponsoring stuff!

Perhaps QF should simply move some money from the advertising budget into paint!  After all, Wunula is a great advertisement!

Perhaps if VH-OEJ was repainted into standard livery, that means Wunala could appear on an A380?
I'd take the awe of understanding over the awe of ignorance any day.
