UA/CO Outstation Rebranding Progress

Thu Jan 19, 2012 2:36 am

Well, we all know that the UA and CO hubs have been rebranded. But what about the outstations?

For starters, I was at FWA a few days ago. It's still all tulips, all the time. I think IND might have been rebranded after UA moved to Concourse A, but I'm not sure. Any others?

Is there any news on this front? I heard about the possible Terminal B plan, but it still seems like not much has happened here.

Nothing's happened at SAN. In fact, apparently CO and UA will remain separate (and in different terminals) until our terminal expansion (the "Green Build") is ready for them, sometime in 2013, probably about mid-year. At that time the op's will be combined and they will have lots of gates to play with!

Plus UExpress op's their LAX and MMH flights out of the CT while their SFO and DEN flights depart from T1 along with mainline. So the entire United/Continental group in San Diego is still currently spread out in 3 separate terminals. I don't envy the poor uninitiated out-of-towners heading home through SAN...

From my understanding all the PMCO hubs are awating full rebranding untill system crossover. At that time they will be rebranded completely.
Always wonderers if this "last and final boarding call" is in fact THE last and final boarding call.

GIG has been recently rebranded, but only the PMUA counters in T2, since CO is still operating from T1 with full Continental signage.

The are still some old small signs though.

I was in SAN for two weeks over the holidays and used all three terminals. The agents in CT can tell you anything you want to know about AE and DL-Connection flights but nothing about CO or UA mainline -- it's like they don't exist. In T-1, the UA people can tell you anything you want to know about AS, but nothing about CO. Over in T-2 US and CO people seem to be able to answer questions about each other's airlines. One of the CO counter agents chased down a question I asked (I was on an 016 ticket) and when UA reservations actually hung up on him, he caught up with me inside the TSA area and answered my question for me.

In my opinion, the CO agents in T-2 at SAN rock. The US agents aren't far behind.

However the UA people in T-1 -- rather than being helpful -- frequently act as if they had sticks stuck up their b**ts.

Just my 2 cents

ORF (pronounced nor-FIK) Norfolk Int'l Airport has been rebranded; taken over the PMCO gates.

I assume things at LAX have basically been merged, as T6 is under major renovation, with all the CO counters ripped up, the rotunda a mess, etc. I flew DL out of T6 over the holidays and it was a zoo.

Maybe they know they are the ones to lose their jobs when everything moves together? So their bad attitude just gets worse?

Makes sense.

There are way too many of them anyway (in my opinion   )

I wish UA would have a spot on their webiste about which oustations have been rebranded and have had gate changes and which ones that havent and when they expected to be completed. Delta did this and I thought it was awesome!

(At UA-SAN in T1) there are times during the day when the number of agents on their side of the ticket counter far outnumber their customers... kind of like KMart most of the time! Not a good, successful business model, me thinks...

Do you use the RCR in SAN, 'flyer? I assume there will be a nice new one in place in the new terminal.

The one over the escalators? I haven't yet. Doing a lot of work with non-profits, I'm afraid they'd think I was being ostentatious with their money.

If I need to use my laptop, I sit on the AS side among the leisure-traveling grandmas and grandpas ( I fit right in, and it's quiet )

As of 12/28/2011 Burbank (BUR) had a rebranded check-in counter but signs at the gate still had the lovely tulip. Of course BUR is Express only so all signage says United Express.

Here are a couple of pics from STL on January 18...

Ticket Counter...

New, combined UA/CO ticket counter in St. Lous. January 18, 2012

Gate A9...

New UA branding at STL gate A9. The podium & backdrop remains standard Frontier Airlines circa 1986.

Note my comment that this gate podium is the same one used by the original Frontier Airlines, which used gate 9, until its bankruptcy in August 1986. This was Frontier's standard gate podium installed throughout Stapleton's Concourse D.

Gate A9...

New UA branding at STL on wall at gate A9. Until recently, this wall had an original issue Frontier Airlines sign that read 'Take Off With An Old Friend.'

Don't you just love when people say nor-FOLK? I grew up in RIC so every time I hear someone say "folk" it makes me shudder a little.

PHX appears to be mostly finished (from what I saw last Monday). Most of the changes came to PMCO gate area, because now they've got new podiums, podium screens (weren't in use yet), and misc. signage. They haven't installed any of the LCD screens UA uses in their gate areas, but that may still be coming for all I know. Check-in desks still say Continental, but it's the new signage that could be easily changed out to United. Fortunately CO and UA desks were side-by-side to begin with, so that's pretty easy. Aside from the two AS gates and ZK at Gate D, UA now dominates T2 at PHX (for what it's worth...all 8 or 9 other gates, that is).
