Early L1011 TriStars

Hi folks

In the very early days of production of the TriStar did any L1011-100's ever get converted to -200's?

C/n's 1131, 1133 & 1138 are the frames that I'm interested in.

Were they built as -100's then immediately converted to -200's before delivery to Gulf Air or was the conversion much later? If later when was the conversion?

Information on the net gives mixed messages.

Any help would be much appreciated.

IIRC, to convert from -100 to -200 only requires an engine change from -22B to -524.

Website...mid late seventies!? Stand back and think about that statement A340600MAN

In the days before the Internet one would rely on publications, particularly the monthly aviation magazines which often detailed airliner deliveries and the annual fleet books (CAM and JP in the UK)

This L-1011 production list indicates that those 3 aircraft were converted from -100s to -200s in 1982.

All three were delivered as -100s in 1976 and converted to -200s in 1982.

I remember flying in a 1011 with no luggage compartments in the middle of the cabin. The spaciousness was wonderful, and since the flight was not very full, there was no chaos with the carry-ons.
I've flown thousands of miles and I can tell you it's a lot safer than crossing the street!

Well there was a little more. The -524 engine had higher temp and press air offtakes. So before the engines were replaced we had to change a lot of components in the air system. I remember that we did all this work first, a month before the engines were replaced. The engines were changed in LHR, by GF staff in the BA hangar. This was to save on engine transport costs after the engines were delivered from RR. With our ace engine change team, the tripple engine change only took 24 hrs.

The -100 Tristars had problems on BAH-LHR. It was really too far, so the conversion was a relief. (I thought it was 1978/9).
When GF bought these four -100s the plan was to operate a scissor operation through Beirut, from LHR, CDG and AMS to BAH DOH AUH and DXB. But just before delivery civil war broke out in Beirut, and the aircraft had to operate non-stop instead, but only to BAH and DOH. The UAE was too far.
