Allegiant - "Big News Coming Next Week"

Fri Jan 20, 2012 6:58 pm

Today on Facebook G4 posted "We've got some big news coming next week, stay tuned..." on their wall.

Any speculations on what this "big news" is gonna be, Hawaii?

Maybe they are gonna take some MD-80s off AA's hands  . to me that would be big news but I don't know if they would tell everyone else that it is "big news"

Anyone have any speculations?

Either Hawaii, new mainland 757 routes, or something to do with AZA because of NK starting up service there soon. That is my guess

Last friday a Thomson 752 G-BYAO was ferried from back from Norwich to Gatwick in the Allegiant colours, it's new reg is N905NV. And on sunday (also that day G-BYAO done some test flights) another ex Thomson 752 G-BYAP was ferried from Abu Dhabi to Norwich to be painted up in to Allegiant coulours, this bird will become N906NV.

So im guessing these aircraft will be used for the Hawaii route. That's all I see for now, any more info and i'll make sure it posted.

Did G4 get its ETOPS certification? I thought it was still working on getting the program approved.

I think an airline like G4 could do a neat European operation from a place like PVD

How many would this make in total? Could this mean that they would be building bigger routes to Hawai'i? I know that they continue to grow IWA.

Dot they have two are three 757 in G4 colors right now? Sorry, I cannot remember right now.

If they did anything like that I could see them try LGW. Sun Country does well with the 738 coming all the way here from MSP. Could also see them going to ORY, I hope G4 does go to Europe sometime in the future.

Sounds like Hawaii to me. The only question is, what routes will they go for? I'm sure they'll link Hawaii with BLI, EUG, FAT, perhaps also MRY, SCK, MFR, PSC and SMX. Maybe they'll even do stuff like BIL, MSO, and COS.

I'm wondering if they'll link Hawaii with LAS and AZA, as apparently both those markets are a bit too far from Hawaii for the WN and AS 738s. But given strong competition from US, HA, and various one-stop options they probably won't. For those reasons, I'd say LAX, OAK, and SAN are completely out of the question.

I'm also wondering which airports in Hawaii they will serve. HNL would be a given, but I think they could pull off service to the outer islands too.

In any case, this will be exciting to watch!

I didn't catch the tail number but there is at least one that AAY is actually operating out of LAS. I saw it depart LAS in the early evening 2 weeks ago.

Just had a quick check and yes they are only using 1 757 at the moment, the reg is N902NV which is another ex Thomson bird (G-BYAE). So yep you saw N902NV 2 weeks ago.

Hawaii? It seems like about time already. They better rush and put those flights on the site if they want to get in this summer. The window for a summer start is getting closer.

I wouldn't be so sure of G4 leaving DSM. WN and G4 coexist peacefully at GSP.

LAX sounds like a given, but I wouldn't be surprised if the other one is MYR.

Both Thomson and AA use Rolls-Royce engines on their wingletted 752s, so I would suspect that any additional 752s in the G4 fleet would have winglets and RR engines.

I'm willing to bet on a bunch of new mainland routes. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't think G4 can sell tickets for Hawaii until they get ETOPS approval.

Would love to see additional 757 domestic service to expand their LAS out east, like towards YNG!

Anyways I anticipate service to Hawaii... Not sure Allegiant has ever touted a "major announcement" on their Facebook like this.

I hope Allegiant Air doesn't pull out of my airport MBS. Their presence at the airport, I think, is a positive thing allowing another alternative to air travel customers from DL and UA.

I would suspect all will have winglets. I bet as more 757s hit the market that Allegiant would buy Pratt's for the right discount.

Then again, there is a HUGE supply of wingleted RR powered 757s soon to be available...

Sigh... I'd like to see G4 continue to fly Pratts... but there might not be enough of an economic reason for them to do so.

Hopefully Hawaii routes. I talked to a insider at G4 and said no FAT routes. They will be flying out of Stockton. Also coming from a person that thought MD-80 was a 40 passenger jet so can't be to reliable. FAT is doing alot of work to 29L and will be closed another 6 months. Hopefully FAT officials know something I dont

Most of these big news G4 qnnouncements are kinda lackluster. How long have we been hearing about Hawaii and their 757's ?

Or lately a big announcement from G4 has been 1 or 2 flights a week from some bus station airport.

While LON and PAR are tow of the largest markets, I am not sure they are the most price sensitive, meaning that if you lower fares, volume will grow greater then the decrease in fares. DUB and AMS would be two markets that I would think would be highly elastic in demand.

Problem with Europe and LCCs flying across the ocean is a bit like the problem LCCs have with flying to/from Canada to the USA. Taxes are so high, that is offsets the ability of the LCC to lure pax with super low fares.

Seems to me it would take more than 1 airplane to do this. Wouldn't one be heading East just as another was preparing to head West? What happens if the one airplane you have goes tech? G4 doesn't cancel flights, but reschedules them for the following day. Impossible to do that with just one airplane to pull from. G4 also doesn't place displaced passengers on other carriers. I don't see how this could work.

According to January issue of "Airliner World", p.9, SAS is selling 13 MD-82/3, 1MD-87, plus 12 spare engines to Allegiant for $20 million with deliveries scheduled for completion by February of 2013.

Since Allegiant already started Rockford service with a 757, my guess is this announcement has to be Hawaii and that they finally got ETOPS approval. I doubt there would be this much hype about a new, oh I don't know, Gary, Indiana to Spokane, Washingon route  .

Time wise this is very doable with one plane and could even leave time for A-checks. But youre right about MX problems or delays.

Just to clarify, Allegiant currently owns 4 757s and is buying 2 more this quarter.

Currently 1 of the 757s is in service with 3 out to other operators on short term leases. The 3 will begin returning to G4 over the next 6 months or so and will enter service with Allegiant. (that info doesn't include aircraft that are being parted out)

I remember this was the "BIG" announcement last time Allegiant had a big announcement. I guess regardless of what the announcements will be, Allegiant can state every pending announcement is big and have us all hoping for Hawaii announcements until they actually do announce the routes.

As for the Hawaii routes, I dont have any clue as to which ports on the continent would be served, but I have a feeling KOA and HNL will be the pairs on this end.

I really think it will just be a few connecting the dots route announcements... nothing more. But I thought of a possible wild card last night. What if it the announcement of the first trans-border services. There has been talk of G4 going into some secondary Canadian markets like Regina and the Canadians are what is keeping all those resorts in Vegas open right now.

Looks like one announcement next week is RDM to the Bay Area.

Whether this week's announcement includes Hawaii flights, a new vacation destination city, or simply a slew of new routes remains to be seen. Earnings are Feb 1 so maybe a lot of announcements over the next 2 weeks.
