2 new A380 will be added to the fleet in March (F-HPJG) and April (F-HPJH) and will enable AF to start LAX and restart NRT.

AF A380 destinations for the S12 will be Daily JFK, LAX, IAD, YUL, JNB, & NRT.
PVG is expected for W12/13. GRU & GIG were also planned but should be delayed as AF will postpone the delivery of its 2 next A380 as part of its cost saving plan.

These SOU flights are good. Flights loaded into Amadeus, but £700 LYS-SOU return.

What is the main purpose of the B747 in the AF fleet? They will remain in their fleet until 2016 I have heard? Isn't it more logical to replace them with some additional B77W and A380s?

Thans FlySSC. GIG will be ready by the end of year (runway, taxiways and gates) for the A380 as requested by AF.
Runway improvement is under way right now. GRU seems to be used as it is now (with few updates).
AFAIK, AF expects to use the giant to Brazil during Brazilian Summer 2012/2013 when activity on US-Europe isn't so
strong.

Not that much Asian destination, huh? besides PVG, what about PEK, HKG or SIN?

Good for GIG, but this is a surprise. Does it mean GIG will receive F class service from AF or will AF have a second A388 config without F?

Probably the A388 with F , but this is not a surprise at all. GIG has been always a very strong performer for AF and this can be explained by an interesting mix of tourism, VFR and business.

The armchair CEO in me thinks that now with the financial struggle and cost-cutting plans is a good time to get rid of them. Although there will be some pilots to be retrained on another type as a result.

And although I am aware that they have different configurations and serve different markets, the armchair CEO in me is also puzzled why they would delay delivery of 2 A380s while keeping 7 or so obsolete gas-guzzling 744s.... fleet streamline! Or maybe AF is really THAT short of cash and really cannot afford buying ay new plane right now.

Wow, really, are they going to be refurbished?
When I doubt... go running!

Found those SOU flights, I must say, only £126 return to LYS, not bad at all. Wonder what they are like now, been a couple of years since we had them and then it was a fiasco so not really sure if its a good thing to have them back. Wonder if BE will codeshare since LYS and NTE are 2 destinations not served by BE

The renovation of the 4 B744 concerned will start next month. All of them should be fully refurbished by the end of 2012 with new seats in J & Y and the brand new Panasonic IFE system with AVOD & PTV in all classes (J/Y).

The main purpose is to save money by delaying the investment in new aircraft to replace them.
A fleet of 7 B744 will finally be kept in service until 2016/2017. Those airframes are in good condition, fully paid, well maintained and still can do the job for another 4 or 5 years.

The B777 and A380 AF will receive in the meantime will be use for growth, and not to replace them on a 1 or 1 basis as planned initially.

Quoting mindscape (Reply 9):

With only 12 A380 ordered, AF has to make a choice. PEK, HKG, or SIN are all potential A380 destinations ... but the priority goes to best market where AF makes money, and Brazil is much more profitable than Asia on this subject.

Correct.
Actualy, the 2 A380 that AF delayed to 2015/2016 are not the N°9 & N°10 but the N°11 & N°12.

N°9 ( msn 104 F-HPJI) & N°10 (msn 117 F-HPJK) will be delivered as planned in 2013.

Quoting mindscape (Reply 9):

There is no plan to have a special A380 config without F.
