Saudi Arabian Orders 8 More 77W's

Tue Jan 24, 2012 3:17 pm

Reported during the delivery Ceremony for two 777-300ER's

Quote:
Saudi Arabian Airlines has ordered eight additional Boeing 777-300ERs in an order valued at $2.4 billion at list prices. The order was announced as the carrier took delivery of its first two of the type from a previous deal for 12 aircraft, plus 10 options (ATW Daily News, Nov. 9, 2010). Boeing said this order was previously accounted for on its orders and deliveries website in 2011.

SV DG H.E. Eng. Khaled Al-Mulhim said, "With the ongoing growth of business and industry in Saudi Arabia, demand in domestic, regional and international travel is also increasing rapidly and the 777-300ER will play a significant role in our long-term strategy growth to expand and modernize our fleet with newer, more fuel-efficient airplanes."

SV took delivery of its first 777, a 777-200ER, in December 1997 and owns and operates 23 -200ERs, Boeing said.

That takes them to 20, which is enough to replace their 747-300 and 747-400 fleet.

That's four major M/E operators of the 777 (five if you include MS); Saudia will be the second biggest, after EK, with QR third and EY fourth. Witth their 772s, that brings their fleet to over forty* and since the MD11Fs won't be going on forever, I'll be surprised if we don't see a 772LRF order at some stage in the future.

(*Whether the first 772s will still be in the fleet when the last 77Ws are delivered is another question; I tend to doubt it; the 333 will probably take over quite a few of its routes, along with the 787 as well).

They should still be there (at least most of them). I suspect the last B77W will be delivered before the first B789, which is the likely replacement.

If anything they're moving in the other direction, with the introduction of 10 abreast seating etc..

Not in F or C i hope. The price for the trip as great, service was excellent, as usual the women FA did all the work, the men just stood there watching   , A direct none stop flight well it is better than stopping midway in FRA, CDG or LHR.
Next time i am giving QR a try, RUH-DOH-IAD in C.

I noticed both B-77Ws were flown to JED and not RUH. Is JED where SV has its maintenance facility?
