Aer Arann Announces 2 New Routes: DUB-BOH, SNN-RNS

Wed Feb 01, 2012 2:18 pm

Both under agreement with EI.

DUB-BOH: 6x weekly (from 1st May), by the AT7. Fares from £29.99 one-way incl. taxes. This route used to be operated by FR and had traffic up to around 80,000/year.

SNN-RNS: 1x weekly, seasonally (9th Jun-1st Sep), by the AT7.

Increases frequencies on nine services to ABZ, EDI, GLA, BLK, MAN, BHX, BRS, RNS.

I was under the impression BRS was being reduced and the times given to DUB-BOH? EI couldn't compete with competition from FR

That might be a bit harsh since EI does remain on the route at a double daily frequency, which is still reasonable. Interestingly though, while FR has reduced services on many routes from Dublin, Bristol is one of the few that has seen an increase (they went back up to 3 times a day when EI started the route). So, competition is working on that route and EI has had to pull back a little. It also flies to Cardiff twice a day (unlike FR), so EI still covers that area fairly well.

EI Regional seems to be doing very well overall. Up to 5 times a day on Glasgow now! FR has only cut capacity at Prestwick (its less than twice a day now).

The increase mentioned for BRS may refer to SNN or ORK?

Good to see expansion for RE/EIR, particurarly at SNN which has seen its route network descimated in recent years since FR effectively pulled out. I know its a seasonal, once weelky service but it is to a new destination.

I would say that is ORK-BRS. The SNN press release mentions increased frequency on SNN-EDI but nothing about SNN-BRS. It also mentions that a second aircraft will be based at SNN, resulting in an increase of 20 in the number of staff. My guess would be that most of these will be GWY based staff who will be transferred to SNN.

Edit:

The RE website provides full details of the frequency increases.
